Book your trip!
Fantastic resort! We are already planning our next trip. Gerry is the upmost professional bartender and Carmen is making a majority of the food in the back and is the real unsung hero of this establishment. She makes decent Americanized food and amazing Mexican food, her pozole is top notch! Both of these individuals and most of the staff deserve raises as they work hard to make sure your vacation experience is one to remember!

Amazing all around
Gerry, the bartender is amazing. He guided us on drink options and we never had to ask for another while at the bar with him! The food was amazing and catered to all types of dietary needs. We complemented the head chef on the pozole and he appreciated the compliment, but didn’t take credit. Instead he brought out the second chef who made it and she introduced herself to us and it was a pleasure! It was nice to meet the cooks behind the food. Any time we returned from an excursion or an activity, the front staff asked us how it went and was great at offering advice for things to do and areas to avoid. This was our second time and we are already planning a third trip.

Overall a good holiday
We spent 11 nights at the ÓLEO hotel, we had a sea front room and the view was absolutely stunning. Room was clean and shower was big and always hot water. Room was plenty big enough, down side there was a connecting door to another room, during our stay it changed occupants around 3 times. We were able to hear everything from the room so it did lack some privacy and was difficult if they came back in late and were noisy. There were 4 places to eat, morning time was a buffet, quite a bit of choice however the food was usually tepid if you did not have something freshly cooked. Served tea and coffee, plenty of cold choices such as ham cheese etc, cereals pastries bread. Freshly cooked eggs, and a selection of warm dishes to choose from. Lunch time there is a pool bar, which was very tasty and offered Mexican and standard burger and chips etc selections of the menu, all freshly cooked. There are two restaurants in the evenings a Mediterranean which offers a selection of pasta and meat dishes, who have starters mains and desserts, the Asian restaurant services a selection ofsushi (all have cream cheese in and fish) no vegetarian choice, rice, meat and noodle dishes again starters mains and desserts. There is enough choice to work your way through. There is room service which we did order on two occasions which is warm and does not take long to be delivered. The beach is clean with lifeguards, sea a little choppy but beautiful to swim in. The pool was cold but refreshing, does become very loud with the daily activities and is difficult to get in the pool as the sun loungers are crowded around the pool could be intimidating for the shy person. The bus to Cancun is one US dollar and worth a trip. Don’t go to market 28 it is a hard sell souvenir shop and they don’t leave you until you buy something, get the bus as a taxi will set you back around $30.00 each way. We did not do a trip this time in Mexico but if you are Canadian or from the US they offer the trips with a 50% discount if you sit in on their time share presentation. Being from the uk we were not offered this so the trips were a lot more expensive. We did not experience the spa, however looks lovely and with the inspira package which we had it does offer a 20% discount. The shop is extremely expensive and a packet of crisps cost us $7. However there is an OXXO store across the road with a big selection. The best thing about the ÓLEO are the staff, they are all attentive and just want you to have the best time possible. They are friendly, kind and every single one go the extra mile to make you comfortable. Did not catch many names but I would not want to miss anyone, they are all fantastic. One small downside is that we were unable to keep our room for a late check out as hotel was full but you can keep your wrist band for $11.00 per hour, I feel this let the place down as other areas you can use the facilities till you leave without an extra cost. As we were here for only 3 hours after check out we opted not to and the bands were cut off.

Very enjoyable stay.
We had the opportunity to visit Oleo in January 2025 to escape the cold weather at home in the UK. Prior to arrival I was in contact with Julia Ramirez chief concierge with a list of questions in preparation for our first visit to Mexico. I found Julia to be excellent, knowledgeable, helpful and ready to answer all the questions I had. On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed (approximately 25 minutes transfer) with a smile and a glass of sparkling wine whilst we checked in. The process was comfortable with lots of information about our stay. The hotel is classed as boutique and as such is welcoming, personal, comfortable and incredibly clean. The staff are happy, engaging and eager to ensure you are enjoying your stay. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable with a small minibar providing lots of bottled water, a couple of beers and some soft drinks. Room service was 24 hours with no tray charge. I have stayed at many hotels around the world and this is one of two that I have stayed at that did not impose an extra charge for bringing food to the room. This service meant that with early morning tours we could enjoy a nice breakfast prior to departure without any additional fees. We were also provided with boxed lunches at no extra charge when out for the day. With regard to restaurants, no reservations are required for the restaurants and availability was good during our visit. The restaurants and their staff were excellent, personally I don’t generally like buffets but found the buffet restaurant to be absolutely superb with a counter cooking fresh squid, pork, fish, chicken and very welcoming staff. The coffee shop is open from 7am and offers an excellent choice of coffees, there is usually only one person working so it can have a small queue but the coffee is worth the wait! The pool bar was lovely, two main pools with a DJ who works one side. The beach is lovely, the lifeguards swim in the morning and put up flags for safety, depending on their decisions they may red flag areas and yellow flag an area that they patrol to keep people safe. We swam in the sea in between the yellow flags watched by the lifeguards and found the current to be strong. I’ve read reviews about premium drinks, so we tried a day of premium package drinks and this is what we found, if you take the deal then I suggest you try it for 1 day, pace yourself to try different top shelf drinks throughout the day and this will give you great value for money and an opportunity to try and enjoy lots of different tequila or other top shelf drinks. I’ve also read about the gift shop being expensive. We looked at shops on Isla mujeres and at other markets and what we found was that the gifts and jewellery were reasonably priced and high quality. If you have inspira you get an extra 20% off prices in the gift shop. The silver necklace we purchased for our daughter was stamped and of a high quality. It’s not a hotel with big shows and entertainment at night, (although the city centre is a short bus ride away which currently costs 1 dollar if that’s what you prefer) it’s boutique, romantic, welcoming, friendly and extremely clean with good food and a nice bar. There are two tour bookings desks in the hotel, 1 in the main area by the bar and 1 by the pool, we used the one by the bar and the tours were excellent. (BD Experience) On departure you can request a late check out which currently costs $15 per hour and is subject to availability (for inspira guests there is a 20% discount) if this is not available you can extend your wristband for $11 per hour whilst you wait for your transfers. We do hope to return one day.

The worst "all-inclusive"
The front desk staff had no record of our reservation, and we had to wait outside the front door for over 15 minutes. We were not offered the famous complimentary drink or towel cards upon arrival. There was no hot water the first night and the first morning. The shower door is not square, causing water to come out of the shower and spill everywhere. The room service food portions were tiny; food was delivered cold to the room. The room service menu is very limited and gets even smaller after 10 PM. (This is what I was told at the front desk: no fish and no soup after 10 PM) The beds and furniture are chipped and feel old. The portions of food that they bring to the beach are tiny. The door to my room would not lock. When I called the front desk, they sent maintenance who called security claiming that they were the ones to fix it and later, security contacted maintenance who fixed it. The staff were not very friendly and were not very helpful. The person who tried to sell me a timeshare didn't even bother to offer me water, instead he told me that if I wanted it I could get it myself.
