    It’s fine, but nothing special.

I’ll assume that you are accustomed to the high pricing in Hawaii, as this resort is no different to anywhere else in terms of its high prices, taxes and resort fees. Be prepared to pay more than you are expecting - you even need to pay $29 a night for the pleasure of parking your car (about a 5 min walk from reception!) Once you get past this, this ‘resort’ style accommodation is fine as a base for visiting Kaui. It is well landscaped, the pool area is attractive with various warm spas and pool bars. It is of course fairly impersonal, as there are hundred of guests at any one time but facilities are pretty much what you would expect. There is no room service, but there is a ‘takeout’ option where you can order from the various restaurant menus and then eat in your room. They don’t allow glasses or cutlery in your room though, so you’re stuck drinking your beer/wine out of a paper cup and eating with plastic cutlery. Seriously guys, can you not review that ‘policy’? As with everywhere in Hawaii, the ‘environmental’ ethos seems to dissipate very quickly amongst the various plastic and throwaway cups, packaging etc ….. though they do provide a refillable water bottle for complimentary use. There is a nice shopping village about 10mins drive up the road, which has some more eating options and a big ABC store, if you don’t fancy the hotel restaurant every night.

Stunning resort, great place to stay and relax

Stunning resort, kept immaculate for guests. This resort is slightly out of the town of Lihue, but super close to the airport and is gorgeous. Our large room was fabulous with a view of the pools areas. The resort offers 3 different pools plus adults only spa area, plenty of lounges to relax. The common areas inside offer plenty of lounges. There is a spa on site (although way overpriced so we did not use). The bar is good and has great live music (there was only one night were the singer had his amp up too loud so was a little uncomfortable in the space and you couldnt hear a thing so we left), but all in all great area and the staff behind the bar were excellent. We did sit at a table the first night and found service very slow, so subsequent nights sat at the bar and service was great. Market onsite is very well stocked even if completely overpriced (as are all resort markets), but has everything you may need at short notice. Had a wonderful experience staying here 4 days and great place to stay if you want to just chill and relax.

Underwhelmed by the Outrigger Kauai Resort Experience

My recent stay at the Outrigger Kauai Resort left me with mixed feelings, but mostly underwhelmed and disappointed. While the property itself has potential, several issues significantly dampened the experience. First, the front desk customer service was less than stellar. I knew the check in was at 4 pm, but my granddaughter and I arrived early. The person in front of me was welcomed early without a problem. So I asked and was told it wasn't possible, and I expressed disappointment. A minute later, the person told me that if I wanted to pay $50 she could get me a room! I declined to pay more than I already was, as that was ridiculous, particularly if a room was open! She was quite curt, never smiled, didn't even offer an apology, nothing. I had to ask about where to go to store luggage, she didn't offer help at all. As a guest, I expected a bit more warmth and attentiveness, especially from a resort of this alleged caliber. We returned at 345 pm to a different front desk person. She was polite. The hotel was very quiet, so obviously not filled either. The internet was terrible. The room itself was very worn out, the sliding door was next to impossible to open and move. The shower was weak, and there were NO plugs in the room for devices. It just seemed grungy. Paying $71 for parking and a resort fee was also adding insult to injury. Why charge to park where there is nothing else but the resort and tons of open parking spots - that is just a junk fee! The biggest disappointment, however, was the "premium garden view" room. Unfortunately, the location was far from what I’d consider premium. Instead of lush, serene views, I was greeted with a less-than-ideal setting that didn’t live up to the description or the price tag. I was looking out at construction equipment, and at 5 am they were already out there making noise!. It’s a letdown when expectations set by the resort’s marketing don’t align with reality. The grounds were seemingly well-maintained, though I didn’t spend much time exploring them due to the overall vibe of my stay, and the fact I was only there one night before going to a much nicer resort. We never even went out to the pool area, or used anything as our stay was about 17 hours from check in to check out! There are some very nice resorts in Kauai, and perhaps years ago this was nicer. Hopefully the Outrigger will spend some money and upgrade the property. It needs to have a full overhaul of customer service improvement as well as the physical property.

    Not the best experience

Stayed here for New Year for five nights. The good bits are the rooms are nice and the pools are lovely. Downside was the restaurant. We tried to get into breakfast. It was a minimum 30 minute wait. There was one main restaurant that wasn’t big enough and no other restaurants locally without cabs etc. We booked a meal which was a disaster with uncooked food and incorrect orders. Nelson the restaurant manager did a good job in trying to sort this out. Expensive hotel. Poor service. Bad experience.

Came for a family vacation, review is more detailed

Came for family vacation. Told we were upgraded to a renovated room— the view was nice but the sink would get clogged, the shower water was occasionally hot and 2 days we didn’t get room service. Extremely pricey for these mishaps. We sadly had an unpleasant checkout with Sadie at the front who made us feel very unwelcome and laughed at us as we walked away. The hotel had multiple pools that were nice and one for young kids which was thoughtful. Two hot tubs— one for adults only but every night there were kids in it. Bartender at the Shutters was very kind! Breakfast buffet French toast was delicious! Workers at the front were always so kind and helped us load our suitcases. Massage therapists were so amazing and helped up find beaches and gave local advice.
