NOT the resort for me
Let's start with the good: staff were very helpful and accommodating, especially the waiters and waitresses at the pools and on the beach. Remember to tip them as they work really hard to serve the guests. The bad: communication from other hotel staff leaves a lot to be desired. For example, we used Interval to book our stay and called the hotel in advance of the trip to inquire about transportation from the airport to the resort and back. At no time did any hotel staff tell us that transportation was INCLUDED in the all-inclusive package charge. We were simply told to locate the transportation desk in the airport and arrange the transportation. We were never told or emailed any information regarding transportation from the resort back to the airport; therefore, when we inquired at the hotel the evening before departure, we were told that there may not be any seats available for us on the bus because we were to make the arrangements 24 hours in advance. I guess we were to figure this out on our own! REALLY BAD: Check-in at the front desk is really slow because the front desk staff attempts to hard sell the guests by suggesting upgrades to the room assignments. They even go as far as telling married couples that they do NOT have any rooms with king size beds and that they ONLY have rooms with two double beds. When guests become upset, the front desk staff then suggest that housekeeping can push the two double beds together. They also attempt to put two grown men in a room with 1 king size bed. All of this is done in order to hard sell room upgrades. They attempted to have my husband, and I pay an additional $1,000.00 for a room upgrade. The experience at the Front Desk check-in caused the entire trip to go down-hill. The room they assigned was so outdated and small that two people could not even stand in the bathroom at the same time. ESPECIALLY BAD: When checking-out, guests are again approached by salespeople attempting to hard sell additional "time" at other Moon Palace Resorts. This pitch is very hard sell and constant unless you tell them a clear "NO" and leave you alone. Bottom line - I would NEVER book a stay at this resort again!

Don’t waste your money and time
Where do I start? First of all this was one of the most expensive holidays we’ve been on, so we expected a lot. From the moment you arrive you queue, there’s never enough check in staff and after a 14hr trip this is the last thing you need. The room was awful. The ‘sea view’ was partially obscured by a dirty wall. The leatherette on the bead head was torn. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work, the toilet roll holder was hanging off, the shaving mirror never faced you as it was loose. The housekeeping was almost non existent. We spent 2 whole days without bath towels, despite repeated phone calls, soap wasn’t replenished, the shampoo dispenser didn’t work. I called housekeeping once a day for something they’d forgotten for TWO WHOLE WEEKS. They clearly forgot we had a balcony as it was never swept and the glass never cleaned. We went to guest services and were fobbed off by Mr Bowen who promised to make it up to us with a massage and a pedicure for our daughter and then he couldn’t be found for 10 days. The cleanliness of the resort was shocking. One day at 10am we moved a sunbed to find French fries under it. It was 10am, so they weren’t left from that same day. It was clear the resort wasn’t maintained. On the last day our daughter badly scraped her leg, requiring medical attention, simply getting in the pool because the mosaic tiles were so loose. The buffet was just ‘ok’. One lunch time we queued up at the correct time only to have the doors shut on us as they ‘weren’t ready’. We felt humiliated. We were treated like pariahs as we weren’t ‘elite’ members and forced to move from the front row of the entertainment section like 2nd class citizens despite the fact there were many seats in that section free. Not that the entertainment was any good. The ‘Michael Jackson Tribute Act’ was clearly a comedy when it shouldn’t have been. One day at 1pm in the afternoon a fully grown and very drunk woman thought it appropriate to climb on the pool bar and twerk, surrounded by a pool full of children. Not one of the bar staff tried to stop her and in fact were laughing. How is that appropriate in a family resort? On one of the treasure hunts the children took part in, the host asked them all to find a dollar. She then brazenly kept all the money the children found and fully admitted to what she was doing. When challenged by another guest that it was theft, the host said ‘no it isn’t, the children gave it to me’. How is that a good example to set children? While we were there, some team members from Moon Palace Cancun were seconded. They overheard our complaints and told us they’d be around at checkout. We were hoping for some compensation. No, what they tried to do was talk us into booking Moon Palace next year, when we had nothing agreed with our work, no flights booked and no idea of next years plans. They were just trying to fleece more cash from us. The only saving grace was the attendant on the Flow Rider (Ralph?) who was attentive and focused and really built our daughters confidence. Add to that the ladies in the daycare who were exceptional (especially Donna). Although there was an incident in the daycare with our little girl being slapped by another child, something we didn’t find out for 3 days later after drilling the staff as to why our daughter didn’t want to go back. There’s clearly some safeguarding issues there. Do not waste your money on this place. This is a very badly managed hotel. It’s chaotic, dirty, badly maintained and an overall shambles.

A great place to unwind
A wonderful place to relax and unwind. We go there yearly to find our peace and quiet. The activities were varied. The water sports and beach were exciting or relaxing as you choose them to be. The various restaurants offered a different selection of food for any palace. The overriding feeling we got was the friendliness of all the staff we encountered and their willingness to go beyond to make our stay the best that it could be!

Moon Palace Jamaica week
To update my last review around arriving at Moon Palace, Ocho Rios, I am in day 5 of my week long trip on Nov. 17, 2024: The wave runner is still down. Likely thru November, no expected reopening day. The best restaurant here is the Gondola Italian restaurant. The other favored stops are the Pier 8, the Jerk Hut (Chicken, Fish & Pork), and the Sundeck (pizza, etc.). My least favorite, with only 2 stars, is Momo or Buccaneers Reef buffet. I suggest skipping the busy buffet spot for a la carte Pier 8. WAY MORE quiet, peaceful, great view of the bay/Beach areas. I also do not agree with the guests' reviews slamming the Jerk Hut. The place is always, every day, very busy, and many people can be found waiting in line during feeding hours. Returnees, like my group, are eager for more. The rub and jerk sauces provide are TASTY. Watch out for the Volcano sauce = habenaro hot/pirate. Pool Concierge Shemar is terrific. Shawn and other wait female staff ("G" named server??) were attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Beach in front of the resort with chairs and cabanas is clean and ready for a relaxing day, with umbrellas, for me. Rooms I found to be clean and well stocked with drink and snack options. Our Diamond Concierge, Ronick, is fantastic and a super hard worker. He is always pleasant and approachable, and he has a great sense of humor (dry humor, too). Sorry to be leaving in 2 days, but the weather at home in AZ is pretty nice this time of year, too. Next up is the Bob Marley museum tour in Kingston. Lots of good talk about this one day adventure. For those who have already done the tour " smoking is allowed" with a choice of options and drink."
