Beautiful place but no compassion from management

I don't usually write negative reviews but this situation really stuck out for me. My kids, a friend and her kids and I got here on March 5th. Check in was good and our swim up room was lovely. We had extras in the room like sand toys for the kids, bath time toys and a bottle of alcohol. I had started feeling unwell on the flight from Canada that morning and decided to call it an early night, assuming I was just overtired and really in need of this vacation. By the next morning, I nearly passed out getting up from bed and had to call the resort doctor. She arrived quickly to our room and was very nice. Unfortunately for me, I had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, leaving my friend to now take care of 4 kids, including my 2. My condition turned out to be very serious and I actually never returned to the resort. My Mom flew in a couple of days after I was admitted to the hospital to care for my kids and eventually take them back to Canada, as I was still in the hospital by the time our flight back home was happening. The resort charged her an exorbitant fee of $400.USD per day/night to stay in my room! That I was not using! She just took my place. I find this absolutely disgusting, especially given the circumstances. My Mom was aware of the fee when she arrived, as my friend had spent the previous day trying to plead with the hotel not to charge it. My Mom did not try to fight it, as she was understandably extremely shaken and stressed by what was happening, and I don't believe it would have lead to any positive result anyway. I even emailed the hotel last week asking them to consider refunding at least part of the charge, but never even received an answer. I'd traveled here a few years ago. It's a beautiful hotel with lots of positives, but honestly this situation has left a very poor taste in my mouth and I will not return.

    What a hole!

Worst resort I've ever been to, especially for a family. Ice cream parlour was cool, but every single aspect of the resort was terrible. Staff unfriendly, no lifeguards at the pool, drinks watered down, food was terrible, impossible to book a restaurant, rocky beach... Avoid this place.

    January in Playa

My daughter, granddaughter and I stayed at the kids club part of the resort. The kids water park was great for a 3 year old, however there was no age restriction for children making it uncomfortable/unsafe at times for the younger ones. There wasn’t much in the way of kids activities and the staff generally appeared very unhappy and disinterested. Food was okay, typical all inclusive fare. Bonus was access to the ice cream shop which we enjoyed very much. Room was a good size, bed was comfortable and we appreciated the roll out bed for my granddaughter. Overall, it was okay, not great.

Great vacation for a friends wedding

The family club is was perfect for us and those of us in our group with children. They have a swimming area for younger children with a pirate ship and a few splash centre in the same area. We were always provided with a high chair for our 9 month old (we did have to ask) and the staff were always accommodating and interactive with our little one. Although the family club was a bit far from the beach, central swim areas, a la cartes, and the two central buffets, we enjoyed the walks to and from each of them. The family club does have their own buffet which is geared towards children and a coffee and ice cream place that was perfect for us! If you’re not staying in the family club, you aren’t able to eat at the pirate buffet or enjoy the coffee/ice cream place. We had a swim out room which did not face the sun though so the pool was quite cold but otherwise okay. You have your own bar at the pink hut in the area too which was nice and close! We did have friends staying in the premium area so we lucked out with room service at night if we wanted! The premium location is closer to the beach and far away from the 2 main supper buffets but you do get premium liquor and a separate section on the beach with chairs. We also had friends who came solo and as couples. Everyone enjoyed their time here. The resort literally has everything you could need: multiple pools, buffets, a la cartes, snacks, bars, entertainment, shopping, souvenirs, shuttle service to town at set times of day, and a variety of animals (monkeys - we did see a woman get ambushed and bitten by one while carrying fruit, coati’s, iguanas, deer, cats, birds, etc.). Do try the lunchtime tacos! They were amazing! We were at the resort for a wedding and so our time was quite busy with our groups shenanigans but it was a lot of fun. This was our first time at a resort this big and although we enjoyed our time here, we do prefer smaller resorts. Our biggest complaint was, the resort is huge and as such, it felt like you were missing out on the things happening through out the day in various areas. The beach is beautiful but once in the ocean, there is a bunch of coral floating around and water shoes are needed unless you’re not worried about hurting your feet. There is one area that is much shallower that doesn’t have any coral floating around and you can walk out quite far into the ocean. The coati’s were a little annoying. They will break into your room if you forget to lock your screen door (oops 😅) and they will try to steal any food you have in bags or personal items if not zipped up or secured (double oops 😅).

    Book That Family Club Room

I stayed here for a week with my husband and 5 year old daughter. My breakdown of our stay: Food: extremely important when traveling with young children - you fear you won't find something they will actually eat. I have the queen of picky eaters on my hands, she LOVED everything! They have a pirate themed buffet right on the family club side which was so convenient. The buffet has a wide variety of kids favourites including happy face fries, heart shaped fries, mini sliders, mini buns, mini meatballs (you get the picture) In fact ALL restaurants here have a large variety of kid friendly foods and desserts at every meal. The food throughout the resort is very very good. No shortage of spices and condiments either they always have it all Kids Pool: Phenomenal pool with water slides and very well maintained grounds and water. The employees work endlessly to keep the grounds and water spotless at all times. They have a waitress which comes by around noon everyday to bring buckets of fresh fries and bowls of fruit for the kids by the pool. The waitress will also come around taking drink orders so you never have to walk to get your own drink. Rooms: extremely spacious and clean. Again the employees work very hard to keep the rooms spotless and tidy. AC worked great everyday, a few clogged toilets but the maintenance guy was always there within 10 minutes. Entertainment: The nightly shows were all fantastic, such a talented group of dancers and entertainers. Staff: every single bartender, waiter/waitress, kids club staff, maintanance, concierge etc are such a fantastic bunch and all happy to serve you with a smile
