Hidden B&B with 5 star hosts
Rancho Juancho is a small “resort” on a farm run by a couple. They are the best hosts we have met in Panama. Super friendly and always helpfull. There are +- 5 cabins and they are basic but ok. We did an amazing horseback tour trough some farms and the jungle. Highly recomended.

Beautiful but....
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. You can only go Up with a 4x4 vehicle, if you dont have a 4x4, he can pick you up. It is steep, very steep. There is no guardrails, if you fall, you're in trouble. I wouldn't recommend this place for small children because you will need to keep an eye on them at ALL times due to the steepness. The room is old, the bed was comfortable. There are bats living inside the ceiling and roof. Guano kept falling over the sink and toilet and we both heard them. I mentioned this to the owner but he said it was birds like I was some sort of idiot that wouldn't know the difference. Nice guy but I know very well bat noises and guano are. I stayed on the second room left to the main area. Beautiful views though but guano it causes diseases, for this reason, I will not be staying in this place again. Breakfast was good, pizza and paella was not. Also, I would recommend to seal all around the door at night since there are huge gaps. Check sheets, corners, check everywhere, we found a scorpion on our first night but you're up on a mountain so I guess it could be expected. Just keep that in mind. Oh and the fridge doesn't work.

Terrible Manager
It is located in a beautiful place with views to the ocean. The cabins are ok. The food was good. I took a school group camping. The cabins where dirty. Trash inside the bathrooms. I asked him to clean my bathroom and he said no, and even told me to take out the trash myself!!! He was extremely rude and disrespectful. I also asked him to turn off some lights for lights out time and I had to argue with him about it... He has so much to learn! We took about 80 kids camping to this place and because of theses insidents we will never return. He really needs to take care of his customers.

A cosy retreat for budget travelers and families
We had a lovely stay at Rancho Juancho thanks to the kindness and hospitality of Eddie and Veronica. It rained most of the time so we didn't do much around but the place is beautiful and quiet, perfect for relaxing a few days. As pointed out by most guests the view is spectacular indeed and the surrounding nature is beautiful ; Portobelo is 8 km away and easily reachable using public transport (there is a chiva passing by every 20-30 minutes). If you're travelling by bus, the drivers coming from Sabanitas know the place and will drop you right at the gates of the property. The access path from the main road is very steep but we called the owner at arrival and he immediately went to pick us up with his car. The cabins themselves are comfortables but rather plain (no Wi-Fi, no hot shower, ageing bathroom). Kitchen equipment is minimal but we appreciated the possibility of cooking, and the hammocks are great. Panama lacks affordable accommodation and can be challenging for budget-minded travelers so we found Rancho Juancho to be a very good value for money. We would definitely come back !
