Fabulous stay for a half term break

Never been to Playa de Palma before, we normally go to Puerto Pollenca at October half term. The hotel was good, spotlessly clean (Housekeeping and their attention to detail was outstanding!), and in the main the staff were very hospitable. Room was spacious enough, bathroom and walk in shower was great. (Towel quality wasn’t that good to be fair, a bit thin and worn out). The room could do with a kettle, I love a cup of tea when I wake up! Breakfast was absolutely fine, if not a little orientated to the German palate! The only thing I would say is that on departure there was no genuine interest in whether we had enjoyed our week, the question was never asked? Aside from that, a perfectly good stay. As a resort would we return? Not sure. We certainly prefer Pollenca and definitely wouldn’t come here in peak season, far too lively.

    A great find

What an excellent hotel. It stands out because of the amazingly cheerful and helpful staff. From the minute we checked-in we were made to feel welcome. Every member of staff greets you with a smile, and the reception team are super-helpful. Just brilliant people right through the place. The rooms are spotless and the cleaning regime is first rate. The food is consistently good with plenty of choice. The restaurant staff and bar staff are attentive and work tirelessly. Wi-fi connection is also good. The entire area is aimed at a German clientele. Every bar, every restaurant, every shop and supermarket. This hotel is a calm oasis located at the edge of a bustling and noisy neighbourhood of clubs and bars, and is a good base for exploring Palma and other areas. We look forward to returning.

Needs to fix some guest experiences

Honestly we'd give 3.5 stars if possible because overall the hotel has a great staff, location and is clean but it has some issues that would keep us from returning. The good: - Rooms look like their internet pictures--modern, clean and comfortable. - The combo of A/C and overhead fan cools the room off. - Our double bed was large and comfortable. - There is a minifridge in the room. - The hotel itself is attractive inside. - The pool was very large--you could swim laps, and the gym was small but had a bike, elliptical and treadmill, a few cable machines but no free weights. There is no water in the gym.  - Wifi signal was good. - Staff are really hardworking and friendly. They were the highlight of the trip. - The restaurant has a wide selection of choices. Most of the food is average with occasional hits and misses. - Location is a very short (2 minute) walk to the beach and the hotel is within walking distance of many bars, restaurants and shops. Drawbacks: - There is no coffee maker or electric kettle in the room. Almost all hotels, including other Riu's, offer this amenity. There is no morning coffee in the lobby or the lobby bar, which was closed during our stay. The coffee at breakfast is tasteless. - The bathroom towels are really small and thin-- the size of a pillow case. - The bathroom body soap is way too perfumy. The bottle says it is mint and eucalyptus but it is overpoweringly floral, like what my grandmother used to wear. Also, there are no other amenities--no lotion, no conditioner, no shower cap, nada. - The hotel is not clear that *all* beverages, including water, cost money at dinner. - The hotel charges a daily rental fee for the room safe, a service that should be gratis.  - The hotel is a smokers' paradise. Technically they don't allow smoking inside the building but guests smoke at the entrance of the hotel (so the lobby can smell like cigarettes), on the patio at meals (so if you want to eat outside, you will smell cigarettes), at the pool and at the outdoor bar/entertainment area.  - Lastly, our booking experience with this Riu was uniquely bureaucratic. We made our reservation online. For every other hotel we reserve, this is enough to confirm a reservation but this Riu says that what you submit is just a "request" which they need 72 hours to confirm. Then, 3 days later, they send an email saying the reservation is confirmed but will be canceled in 48 hours if you do not call their customer service center to, I guess, confirm again. When we call the customer service center, they ask for our credit card information over the phone even though we're paying at the hotel upon arrival. Then they tell us that airport transportation is included, but they cannot book any transportation for us because we only have our arrival flight booked. (We didn't book the departure flight because we didn't know if we could stay at the Riu and for how long because they needed 72 hours to confirm the reservation in the first place.) And, they won't offer the free shuttle if we don't provide the return flight details within 2 weeks of our arrival. A full week before our stay, they send an email asking us to electronically check in. This was the most convoluted, unfriendly reservation process we have ever encountered. It gives us no confidence in their ability to manage information and reservations. Two other comments: - During our stay (early October), most guests were older Germans. We enjoyed this but be aware there wasn't really a global or pan-European client base. - The shuttle to/from the hotel, if arranged by Riu, is provided by the TransUnion bus company so the ride--which is less than 5k--will take about 90 minutes. Upon arrival at the airport, your bus can wait for up to an hour (as we did) before it leaves for the many hotel stops. And the ride to the airport will include many stops and take 90 minutes as well. We opted for a taxi when returning to the airport.

A Beautiful Hotel with Amazing Staff and Great Rooms in quite a lively part of Majorca!!

We have just returned from the beautiful Island of Majorca and a stay at Riu Concordia, Cami De Les Merivelles. We had read all the previous reviews (good and bad) and must be honest that we were slightly dreading what what we might find in the local area. We booked the holiday through Tui and trusted that they would really have done their research on not just the hotel, but also the area. We are a family of four with two teenagers (15 & 18) and we were looking for comfort, sunshine and some good food with a half board arrangement. All of the staff at Riu Concordia were really amazing and could not have gone any further to make us feel welcome and if we could give them 10 stars we would!! The food is really good and we were offered a large variety of different dishes every day. The head chef was really helpful to my wife who is coeliac and has to avoid gluten. He took her on a daily tour of the dishes and pointed out which ones were gluten free and provided gluten free rolls and muffins on request and this was a really nice and helpful touch! During our stay we met Germans, French, Dutch and several other nationalities (not very many from the UK). The area (mentioned in other reviews) is quite lively you would need to be careful at night (and also during the day) as you are very likely to encounter some quite rowdy party groups (mainly German), but they are just simply out seeking some fun in the sun (we were all young once!!). A couple of times in the pool we observed some very drunk young adults (mid twenties) basically trying to ruin the day for everyone else. All credit to the hotel staff as they actually stepped in and tried to get the people involved out of the pool (not easy when they have been drinking all day). We went off to Palma and really enjoyed this beautiful city (cathedral, harbour and old town) for a couple of days and also hired a car and explored some of the other amazing places in Majorca (Cala D'or & Cala Anguila). The buses can get very busy (in August when we visited), so we would suggest planning your days out carefully and going quite early to miss the high temps and crowded public transport. So our summary would be well done to all the staff at the Riu Concordia for making our holiday such an amazing experience and we used this lovely hotel as a base to explore Palma and the wider island. Note of caution I (and for all Tui Holiday advisors): If you stay really local in Playa de Palma you are most likely to experience some of the more seedy sights and sounds mentioned in previous reviews.
