First time at Riu
I had a great experience at Riu. The whole time I was there, I was in awe at house smoothly everything functioned. The place is huge and there are a lot of people but it never felt crowded or chaotic. The buffet setup is fantastic and they really do a great job of accommodating so many people. I came with my best friend and her family and now I want to bring my family!

Willy & Angle are the BEST!
Willy & Angle at the swim up bar were the absolute best! They made the experience so fun. Their energy was amazing and they are so nice! The drinks they made were so good. They interacted with everyone and made everyone feel at home! I will 100% be coming back! If you come make sure to come visit them!

Spent a week at this hotel (Nov 6-13) and it was “average”. Food was ok but as mentioned in another review what is supposed to be served hot is room temperature at best. An example is the mozzarella sticks at the steak house. You take one bite and the whole piece of cheese just comes out and has the consistency of a cheese stick so not the gooey cheese you expect from a mozzarella stick. The rest of the food was ok for an all inclusive but not great. Staff is friendly. My biggest letdown is our room. It really smelled of mold and mildew. The main issue is the fact that the fan in the washroom that is located in the shower does not work. I am sure that is the case for most rooms as there is no switch to turn on the fan itself nor does it turn on automatically with the A/C being on in the room. So beddings felt damp all the time. Ceiling in shower showed signs of mildew. Hot water was not an issue so props for that. Beach was great. Big waves though but consistent with that area of Cancun. I went to the Roy Palace last year and had a better experience. Tried the Dunamar because I went with my kids this time around. So would I go back….?…..no. I also noticed the 2 pools we could go to with kids was very dirty (oily and had bugs in it) and yes even murky at 8 AM and not the end of the day. So opportunity to improve there. Riuland for kids was very good with kids so commend that group. This is my 5 th Riu so I am familiar with the level of service and sorry but was not wow’ed this time around.

Nice but…
The resort is beautiful. Most of the staff were friendly and the food had good taste. BUT… This is the most confusing hotel to get around, especially to find room numbers. It is NOT a hotel you want to stay at if you have any type of walking issues. Between the room issues and the bathrooms, you are a mile apart from anywhere you’ll be. There are not enough of them by any means. The food had decent flavour but not once in our week there did we get hot food. We were the first people into the dinner buffet most nights and it was still cold. We experienced that in the specialty restaurants also. Thankfully I checked my chicken nuggets the one day as they still had ice in them and I stood there as she took them out of the fryer. This is the main reason (the food) for my lower star rating. The resort is very nice, beautiful surroundings and grounds. The beach is beautiful. Lots of lounge chairs around the pools and beach, which we really appreciated. Nightly Entertainment was good, very typical for the resorts. I do not believe we would come back to this specific resort again but would come to the area again.
