Emerald Bay
The cleanliness was amazing! More than enough restaurants, bars and pools. Friendly staff. Safe place at night. However, my room 403 was about the six industrial air conditioning units and it was a constant howl loud enough to interfere with sleep. I didn't complain because I had already unpacked everything and didn't want to pack and move again. They should be aware of this problem though. Had problems with the wifi, for the first two days I had none and it took two trips to reception to get this fixed the first time. When it happened again towards the end of my stay they fixed it right away. Elevators are incredibly slow.

Disappointed
I recently stayed at the RIU hotel in Mazatlán, Mexico, and I unfortunately experienced a disparity in service. It appeared that as a Black guest, my service was significantly delayed, especially when waiting at the bar. I often found myself standing there for an extended period before being acknowledged by the bartender. This kind of treatment is disappointing and unacceptable.

Huge resort, lots of walking to be done!
We stayed at the Riu Emerald Bay for a family vacation, there were 14 of us, ranging in age from 74 to 21 months. This was my first stay at the resort, and we will come back! The resort is huge, it feels like it takes 5-10 minutes to walk anywhere from our room. We stayed on the main level, which saved us some time, but because we had little kids with strollers, we had to take the elevator down one level. There were times we had to wait 4-elevator’s worth of time to find one that was going the direction we needed, especially around mealtimes. The blow dryer in the bathroom was obscenely loud, and didn’t work very well so bring your own if you can. Our fridge stopped working on day 3, but we didn’t really need it anyway. We could not get the safe to work either, so we just used one in another family member’s room. There were always chairs available at the pool and beach, no matter the time of day you went looking for one. The food was amazing. There was such a variety every night, which catered to everyone’s tastes. The specialty restaurants that required booking in advance were not worth it. The buffet was better. No one was impressed at either specialty restaurant we went to (Tabasco and Bamboo). The kid’s pool was great for the kiddos to play in. The playzone area was unsafe in some areas I observed, but hey, it’s Mexico.
