The Good 1. Small quiet resort that some may feel too bored 2. Staff are nice but don't expect them to understand English 3. A bus takes you to the beach club every 30 minutes and can be crowded so expect standing room only The Bad 1. We were fortunate to have our request of a ground floor room close to our friends but it can be very loud from rooms above and people climbing the stairs 2. It took us a few days to realize that housekeeping cleans the room, another person comes to deliver water and beer and yet another to supposedly replace towels. We had to constantly look for the towel cart as many times our bath mat, face cloths or towels were not replaced. 3. There are 3 restaurants on site, the buffet(where we mostly ate had the most options) a Mexican and Italian which had 5 main meals that didn't change and the beach club which also serves as the evening steak house. You have to request at 7am the day of to get a reservation and when I asked other guests if they enjoyed it one replied it was 3 hours of my life I can't get back for a mediocre steak. Everyone goes on the bus and returns at the same time. The Ugly 1. Three of us became ill 2. The hardest bed I have ever slept on ( my back is still sore) 3. The smoking areas were terrible, not protected from the rain and hardly cleaned up. People who went to Rui Tequila on Friday night for the white party said they had a lovely sit down covered area.

Very nice winter break
My best friend and I just returned from a very nice holiday in this hotel. The rooms are nice and spacious, the food was nice. The friendly and professional staff deserves a big thumbs up. I had a small issue in my room, which was solved right away, and the following day, the reception staff called to check if the issue was resolved. The entertainment team deserves a big thumbs up as well. I enjoyed the activities during the day as well as the entertainment in the evening.

Fun Bar
Let me make it very clear this is not a 5 Star resort it balances out as a low 4 start resort and I will explain why. The is a tiny place with no access to any other Riu except on Friday you can go to the Riu Tequila for a white party...drinks only no food and back by 2300. The food is consistent the specialties are Steak House, Bonita(mexican) Dante (Italien) the main buffet Adeltia. The main bar area is the most active area at night and the team along with the animation team make it fun. The beach club is okay but the beach has washed away and the little pool was cold. The service here is not at par with the Lupita club(not resort) here are some Cons and Pros Cons: Small resort: very small everything is within a 50 meter area except your rooms. The beach bus is very consistent and takes 10 minutes each way. You can also get off at 10th Ave to walk down to 5th Ave. Older rooms: rooms are older the buildings are older the screen on the patio was hanging off the cleaners left a cleaning sponge in the shower and we couldn't get our two towels we had to ask 8 our of 11 days Mixed service levels: main bar are all super stars. The Mexican Bonita not good service went three times had to get our own water. Main buffet Adelita mixed service levels mostly the morning coffee was tough to get. Steak house at the beach...see below for this one. Cleanliness: this was mixed all over the campus. The main bar the team where constantly cleaning removing glassware(don’t leave your drink on the bar to get a smoke or washroom it will be pick up it they don’t know where you have gone. Around the pool however there was coatimundi poop on the main pool deck until a client asked them to clean it up? Beach Volleyball: dude there is no beach it is an area with some sand, more rocks than sand but if you wear shoes you are fine. This is the area they manage some activities such as horseshoes, darts, bocci ball. There is non beach volleyball at the beach club. Beach Club: opens later like after 10am, unfortunately the battle with the beach is ongoing over the time I was there the beach lost some battles there is a 5 foot drop off down to the water they are constantly working on this. The Riu Yucatan and Palace beaches were in good shape. Pros: Main bar team: are the best Rosario, Karen, Sergio and others work extremely hard and always joking and trying to communicate with you. Mobility : we don't have any now however the ramps around the resort at well situated the two pools could have better access but you could access the main pool. Beach bus: drivers excellent and friendly Animation Team: make this place move from a 3 star to almost a 4 star, Tristan, Joanha and the two Parisian people we full of energy and will a smile even when it rains. Check in: Olivia is very good as well the other staff, the only disappointing thing was the removal of our resort credits(RiuTopia) we were promised this on our booking for over 7 days…never happened, even our envelope stay the was a inclusvio ??I have written to Riu as well.

Great place to holiday
My wife and I stayed at Riu Lusitania and loved it, staff were excellent, food was first rate, plenty of choices. Hotel is a bit older but kept up very well, room was always clean as was the property. We would go there again and have told our friends of our great experience with RIU hotels.

Super Staff
Best time of the year to go - January - nice and quiet if you want it. All the staff were very attentive and helpful. The area was spotless, kept very clean. Room 2432 top level (3rd Floor) great size, plenty of room and again kept clean. We both slept very well indeed. The shower was superb. If one needs anything at all, all you have to do is ask. if its the right price, we will be back..... thank you Riu Lupita
