nice hotel with great staff
The hotel is very nice with everything you need for a great vacation. Staff is fantastic. They do their jobs well and are exceptionally friendly. There are only a couple of things that stopped me from giving 5 stars: the beach is not good (rocks are plentiful, large, sharp and cannot be seen from the surface so getting in the sea is unpleasant and dangerous), the pools are very cold, the WIFI is terrible and the food is not as good as at other RIU palaces I have stayed at. None of these, however, would stop me from coming back or recommending this hotel to others.

Overall Great Stay
Have appreciated all the reviews when we were deciding so wanted to give our own. Visited over Christmas with our family (17 and 19 year old daughters) Overall would give a 4.6.. Check in - 5: Super easy and smooth. Room - 4.8: Loved the separate bedroom for the kids. Room was spacious and with it being a new hotel was just clean and nice. Shower water for some reason only would get luke warm and they couldn't fix it hence the 4.8. Food - 4: There's a lot of it. Lots of variety...it's all good but not life changing. Similar to other all inclusives we have been too. if you are a foodie this might not be the place. Beach - 4.5 We were there at full capacity and there are plenty of chairs and space. Sand is nice. Water had some seaweed and as others have send you will need water shoes with the rocks. Volleyball and soccer went on constantly but not a lot of people spend a lot of time in the ocean. Pool - 4.8 We were there over Xmas and we guessed it was probably 70-30 families with children to just adults. Therefore the kids pool was pretty crowded most of the time. The good thing is even at 100% capacity there are plenty of chairs for everybody. However, if you wanted the perfect or your favorite spot you need to get there a little early to get yours. They are super strict about kids being in the adult pool. Adult pools had ebbs and flows of being busy. Overall a pretty chill area which we liked but if you are there for crazy party vibes this isn't the resort for you (note...cant' speak for what it's like when school is in and it's more adults). Availability - 5: I was worried with it being a 100% capacity week that lines would be crazy and everything a wait. BUT...we were able to get in to all the restaurants, never had a wait for the buffet. Bar lines were minimal and staff was super attentive and available to bring drinks at the pool and beach. Pleasantly surprised for sure. Water slides are great...never long lines and a great addition. Staff - 5.0 They're just awesome. The vibe is the best part. App - 3.0 it kept crashing and logging us all out. not the best. They need to keep working and updating it.

Dec/2024
5 stars Overall, our family really enjoyed our stay, really enjoyed the food (are too much), staff at bars/pools/restaurants were top notch. We enjoyed the Jamaican people, very friendly and real good hearted. WiFi was in and out complicating RIU app use. Worked great when Wi-Fi was good. Resort Taxis are pricey.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE FOR FAMILIES – BLARING MUSIC UNTIL 11 PM RIGHT UNDER YOUR ROOM
I am staying at the resort right now, frustrated beyond belief. If you have young kids, this resort is not for you. The music blasts outside your room until 11 PM with absolutely no regard for families with young children. My 1.5-year-old and 4-year-old woke up shortly after falling asleep because of how loud the music was. The entertainment area is located directly below the rooms. Why they would place it so close to the guest rooms is beyond my understanding. They market this place as a family resort, but at 4 PM, there are dance parties in the pool with people who have clearly had too much to drink. Your children see this behavior and may start to think it’s appropriate to act that way. Riu Aquarelle needs to get its act together and decide whether this is truly a family resort or a playground for single adults seeking entertainment.
