    Terrific Resort

Loved this resort. Modern, contemporary and absolutely spotless. Quad design encloses a beautiful, park-like square, full of trees, shrubs and flowers. The beach goes for miles, and we never had anyone sitting 'on top' of us, lots of chairs. Food in the buffet was first-rate, really superiors. We were disappointed in the ala carte restaurants, and mostly stuck to the buffet. Can't say enough about the staff who were uniformly profession, polite and accommodating.

    Customer Service

What stood out for us, other than all of the amenities which were great, was the fantastic customer service when our flight was rescheduled for 24 hours after originally booked. Each staff member we spoke with was so courteous, professional and happy to help in a calm and friendly manner. We were so impressed by this!

    Nice Riu, beautiful beach.

I'll start with the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Front desk staff wasn't as friendly as other staff but we didn't have to deal with them other than checking in and out. Other staff including housekeeping seemed to be really happy with their jobs. We haven't always experienced that at all inclusive in the past. Rooms: We had a King Garden View room 3045. We had a little view of the sea from our balcony. Others have mentioned the lack of privacy. If you are comfortable with the person you are traveling with it isn't that much of a big deal. Tub is in the middle of the room which is weird to us. The toilet has it's own room which was nice. But if you're in the shower the other person in the room can definitely see you. Housekeeping did a great job with filling the mini bar/fridge daily and kept things very tidy. One day we didn't have any wash clothes replenished so I got on the app at the resort and requested them. They were brought to our room within minutes. With a smile. Food: We ate at Roma (Italian) it was very good. Had a large salad/food bar with soups, desserts, meats, cheese, etc. I had lobster ravioli and it was delicious. Husband had Occo Busco, it was just okay. Tasted like a roast. We also ate at the Steakhouse which was not terrible but we chose not to return. Overcooked filet and shrimp and ribeye. Crab cake was okay too. We also had Asiatico (Japanese) tempura shrimp and veggies were good. Sushi rolls were good. But we found the buffet to have the best food and great selection each day. Always some fresh shrimp, mussels, fish, sushi. Great salad selection, pasta station, meat stations, desserts. Something for everyone's taste at the buffet. Pepe's at the pool was a daytime/lunch area with burgers, hot dogs, nachos. Burger was horrible but the rest was okay. Great for grabbing lunch by the pool. Square Garden bar was a nice place for before or after dinner drink. Had a piano player each night that was very good. Beach was beautiful. Seaweed has arrived but was raked up each morning with a tractor. Plenty of chairs to lounge in. Palms were the only shade. We enjoyed the resort but we'll opt for Adults Only next time.

People getting shot at killed on property (4/3/2025) after hotel security does nothing to address the peoiple days befor

Resort was incredibly clean and well-maintained. Room configurations are odd with a tub in the middle of the room and a bathroom open to the rooms. Food was sub-par at best. Three Mexicans asking kids to open their phones to their Venmo app and hotel security doing nothing about it followed by a shooting the next day kind of puts a damper on the experience. Fortunately, we were gone before people started getting killed. I'd recommend a number of other tropical destinations - time to avoid Mexico.

    Love the layout!

We traveled to Riu Palace Costa Mujeres with a group of family members in late March. It's about a 45 to 50-minute ride from the airport and the highway is pretty rough. Once you get to the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres there is a lot to love. The resort is beautifully manicured and maintained. We really liked the layout of this hotel. The buffet, specialty restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment are all located next to the pools and beach where all of the daily activity is. Speaking of pools, there are five of them. 2 adult pools with swim-up bars, 2 family pools, and 1 activity pool. There ample loungers around every pool, just don't expect to find a primo shaded spot after 10:30 or so. The towel game is always in effect, but we were always early enough to snag great spots. The beach is beautiful! Soft white sand and no rocks. There was very little seaweed the week we were there. There are plenty of loungers available on the beach, but the only shade is provided by the row of palm trees, so be prepared for sparse shade at times. Our room was a partial ocean view Junior Suite on the fourth floor. I am not a big fan of the open concept rooms. It's better suited for couples than families because of the limited privacy. To me the non-jacuzzi bathtub in the middle of the floor is just wasted real estate, but it did make a nice drying rack for our swimsuits. The bed was disappointing. The mattress was firm, to the point of being hard, and the pillows were flat and small. Not at all the luxuriousness that I would expect from a Palace caliber hotel. The housekeeping staff did a fabulous job and were efficient and consistent every day. The restaurants and buffet are all pretty much what I expect at any all-inclusive resort. We had dinners in the Steakhouse, Italian, and Mexican restaurants as well as many meals and snacks from the buffet and Pepe's grill. All of our meals were enjoyable if not remarkable. We found that the staff at Riu Palace Costa Mujeres were all very friendly and dedicated to helping to make your stay as relaxing as possible. From the front desk clerk that made sure my room requests were fulfilled, to our housekeeper, servers, and bartenders, everyone works very hard! We had a great time at Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, and would definitely consider returning to share with friends and family in the future!
