Wonderful Christmas at the Riu Palace
This resort is absolutely beautiful. You can snorkel right at the beach on resort. The food is honestly the best food I’ve had a a resort. I have been to Mexico 20 times. The alacarts were all good. You could even do alacart at Italian for lunch and they have fillet minon , lamb and osobuco to name a few dishes. But the buffet was where we ate mostly. And the quality of the buffet was as good as it is at home in Canada. The quality of the sauces were really good. So much flavour in the gravy and bbq sauce and cheese sauce . Not watered down. The meat was very tender and good quality. Always many protein choices. The staff was so lovely . The people who stand out most to me are Nick and Aaron at buffet lunch and breakfast. Catalina at lunch in Italian. And Paula the drink server. They always made sure my water glass was full and made sure I had what I needed. They were very professional and I am glad to have had the pleasure to met them. They made our visit very pleasant. Also valentin and William the beach drink servers were wonderful. You can not go wrong with this resort. Everything is good. The sand is beautiful powder at the beach. The pools are gorgeous. The drinks are delicious and the food is amazing. We will be back.

Go for relaxation and not for the food.
The resort is pretty and clean. The rooms are decent, the decor is nice. I truly enjoyed the private pool. The staff is awesome. The beach was nice, a tad bit crowded, but fine. The food and drinks are meh.. I was truly disappointed with the quality of the food, if it was not over cooked, it was imitation. Lobster night at the buffet and the Japanese restaurant was the best food. Also, the drinks were very watered down, I had to constantly ask for shots to taste the alcohol. The juice and cocktail mixes were all imitation, none were from natural fruit. Some of the cocktails tasted like cough syrup, they had strange after tastes. I constantly drunk wine, it was the best option. We have frequented many resorts in Mexico and other countries and have never experienced such disappointing food and drinks really for the price that was paid.

Our stay at Riu was just excellent in every way. The service is outstanding, the place and all facilities are in great condition, very well maintained. Food, drinks and entertainment are exceptional! Very recommended place to go to!

Mixed bag
Nice hotel, clean, have few pools couple of which are adults only. Spa was amazing, I would recommentd do to water therapies - they are free and going from steam room to cold jacuzzi was very relaxing, - massage was great too. Beach is nice, although pretty small and overcrowded by chairs. Food was good and you don't need a reservation to specialty restaurants. Service was hit and miss, depending on who you are dealing with. Some waiters are attentive and helpful, some just ignore you completely and it is impossible to get anything at all. Asking for repairs was nightmare, needed to ask them multiple times every day (they would say "check with us again if it is not fixed withing a few hours" which almost never was). They also would tell you "stay in the room, someone will come [to repair or provide water] within next 10 min", usually the person will come in 2 hours the soonest, if comes at all. That was kind of ridiculous, people don't come to such resorts to stay in rooms the whole day to wait for the stuff to fix things! My safe didn't end up working the whole stay, I just gave up asking to fix it at some point. Also, if they put you close to room 3029, ask for another right away, as it is right above the stage and it is super noisy until 11pm and sometimes your whole room will vibrate. And this room costs as much as nicer quiter ones! Really shouldn't! Althought the view can be nice from some of those rooms.
