Amazing place
Great accommodations. Friendly staff and super place to vacation. Loved it The only issue was a lack of working elevators

Not a 5☆ but still decent.
Our air conditioner broke on the 2nd day. They upgraded us so that was good. Food was ok. Buffet is the same everyday, nothing new, no theme nights. A la cartes do not take reservations so you need to line up at least 1 hr prior which is ridiculous when on vacation. The main pool was disgusting. It was never cleaned. The debris that collected and the film on the top def had me concerned about getting ill. Luckily the adult pool in the new building was clean so we went there daily. 2 out of 3 elevators were out of service on our side of the hotel. Elevator that was working only held 5ppl at a time so that is not adequate for a hotel of that size. People were very friendly and helpful. Our sunwing rep was great also. The riu palace next door is worth paying the extra for. We were allowed to walk through. All the pools were super clean and the hotel was in much better shape. I would def go back but would only stay at the riu palace. The natural wildlife next door to the palace is amazing.

Riu Guanacaste
Everything was good except for the restaurants. Some said they were open 7 days a week, and they were not. Usually if the menu and time were up, they were open. Some had the menu and times up, but they were closed. It was very confusing.

A great experience and good value for for the location, the resort, and the weather
We had a great week at Riu Guanacaste. We were really pleased with the room, the food, and the entertainment. Of course the fantastic weather helps make for a good trip. A couple of things I did, considering the new travel reality: 1) I had a waterproof "fanny pack" that I wore for swimming in the ocean, where I kept my phone and money, etc. 2) I put the "do not disturb" sign on the doorknob for the whole week. We just kept the room as clean as we could ouselves. No worries about theft, if no one enters the room. We grabbed new towels and drinks from the staff in the corridor. But again, the resort and the beach are amazing, no disapointments. We found that going in march/april really guarantees the sunny hot weather that you head south for.

We had a great stay with just one “but”…
We stayed in the new part of the hotel which was very nice and modern. Our room was very spacious and the A/C worked well. There was also a great choice of restaurants on site and we enjoyed our meals a lot. We loved going to the beach where we saw a lot of wildlife…monkeys were our favourite. There were a lot of vendors there the but they were all very friendly and not intrusive at all. The only let down of the resort was rude obnoxious disrespectful and aggressive reception staff with zero customer service skills and no interest in customer feedback…all other staff were absolutely fantastic! We would like to thank all the housekeeping, bar and restaurant staff for making our stay at Riu Guanacaste very enjoyable.
