Wow Macao
My wife & I absolutely loved our stay at the Punta Cana Palace Macao! The hotel & beach area was beautiful & the hotel staff couldn't have been friendlier. There is a buffet scheduled three times a day & we loved the choices that were available. There are four restaurants open at 6PM daily for dinner. We ate at the steakhouse every night, since they had lobster, which my wife loves. There is a RIU Party scheduled four days a week, which is just a short walking distance away. The RIU Party is a pool party with different themes & there is a DJ & entertainers. There was a neon & white party scheduled at night and a daytime pink party. They were all a lot of fun! We also enjoyed the nightly entertainment on the stages at the Macao. We don't really have anything bad to say about our stay. There are vendors that will approach you on the beach trying to sell you various things, but that didn't bother us. One recommendation is to be sure to book your transportation from & to the airport when you do your hotel booking. We used Destination Services & had no problems. At the hotel, we then used Destination Services to book one excursion during our stay to Marinarium Parks to do some snorkeling & kayaking, which was also a lot of fun.

Nice place, got tired of buffet
This is a beautiful resort. Not too crowded, not too large. The beach is awesome. The staff is excellent, one of the best I’ve seen. I have celiac, so the buffet was a struggle. So many deep fried things, so much bread I couldn’t touch. I ate a sort of salad for breakfast and lunch. Fish was good that wasn’t fried, dinners were well served, both my lobsters a bit chewy. Favorite was the steakhouse salmon. Didn’t realize till the end that you could input your allergies on the dinner menus and it would tell you what you could eat. That helped!! We would go back. Just a warning, don’t use a credit card at the casino. They don’t tell you it is out of cash until you owe quite a bit. Wasn’t me but happened to a friend. Common sense really.

amazing
A fantastic resort and even better staff. We were looked after amazingly. Elisa was especially wonderful and was a credit to the Riu Branding.

Not the same As it used to be
We have visited this resort a minimum of 8 times. We kept coming back because of the location, service, & food. They underwent a major renovation last year. The renovations are lovely. Updated decor, additional restaurants, added pools & family area. We were extremely disappointed when we checked in, only to be told our reservation for a jr. suite in the villas wasn’t available. We’d be “upgraded” to the main building. This wasn’t acceptable to us, as we had a confirmed reservation in the villas. After lots of arguing with “Marco” & trying to talk to a supervisor, he finally relented. He said if we stayed the first night in the main building, we could move to the villas the next afternoon. We made him show us this promise on his computer. The next day we checked back with the desk to confirm the move. They said come back at 2:30 & our room would be ready. Well, of course it wasn’t ready until after 3:15. We wasted half of our first day of vacation packing back up, moving & waiting on our correct room. I made a formal complaint to Riu through their website & have had no response. We feel we’re owed the difference between a room in the main building versus the villas. We asked about the difference at check-in & were told no adjustment could be made. We used to love coming to this resort, but the check in with this stay has left us with thinking maybe it’s time for a change.

Best trip ever
This was the best trip we've ever been on. Everyone was amazing and so happy and kind and the resort was clean and beautiful. Bermudez over at the swim up Coral bar and Kelvin at Joe's Bar made our trip even more amazing. We will definitely be returning and have already recommended this resort to friends and family.
