Apr 03, 2025Back again for the 4th time
4th time staying at the Riu Place Mexico and as usual all was good. Staff, meaning servers, cleaners, bartenders, entertainment crew all good some even more than others. Rooms are due for an upgrade but are well maintained. There is always someone cleaning inside outside wherever you look. Grounds and beach are immaculate. Will be back.

Great stay, staff are the key!
Stayed for 2 weeks and loved it. Have stayed at many Riu’s and too many all inclusives - the food here is as good as any we have been. The beach is amazing, bit too much seaweed at times but it clears some days - otherwise stunning. Compared to Palace Playacar this is a little more dated but apart from that, I would always choose here for the better beach. Staff were amazing, particularly the guys in the lobby bar - Rigo, Omar, Luis & Animeil - the girls also. Two minor things - 1) entertainment in lobby bar (piano) finishes too early imo and 2) only one set of lifts at the front of hotel which can be an issue for older generation. All in all highly recommend staying here.

Apr 03, 2025Amazing place let down by rooms and constant noise.
Review Hotel is spotless and I mean spotless nonstop cleaning and stunning although a little dated but still lovely. Food is pretty damn good too we ate in main buffet restaurant 8/10 evenings and all was fine. The steak house restaurant was ok but my fillet was a bit more stringy and chewy than expected. Bodega offered Mexican food and was fine. Few bars all mostly table service and a good selection of drinks. Staff really friendly and attentive. Lots of nice areas to sit inside and out and private beach where drinks are served at your lounger. Entertainment in the evenings was pretty good on the whole, plus having access to the tequila opposite meant you could visit there There are so many positive I can say about this hotel the list is endless. But……. This is where it goes downhill the rooms were ok again a little dated and having a bath in the middle of it was a nice touch. Wife went to use it one day she the plug was the wrong one so didn’t hold water!! Tiny toilet no room to move. No kettle or tea making facilities there is a coffee machine but we don’t drink coffee. By far the worst thing is sleep and relaxation quality in the rooms. The doors slam really loudly due to bad design of auto closing mechanisms, not I hasten to add by guests or staff slamming them. This coupled with tiled floors you have no chance to kick back in your room and chill. The last person to go to bed will wake you as will the first person up. We did complain and they moved us to a quieter area but to be honest there wasn’t much difference. We paid a lot of money to stay here but couldn’t relax or sleep that well something pretty basic and also noted my fellow guests. For this reason it’s a 4 / 5 doubtful we will return for the noise reason.

Great holiday needs slight attention to detail
Having been to Mexico and Playacar many times I pretty much knew what to expect but it was our first time at the palace, overall I’d score the hotel 9/10 would of been 10/10 but there is a few niggles. Firstly the niggles the rooms need a lot of work poor decor old looking generally need a serious revamp, the pools in areas need a spruce up new tiles just general tiding up, the entertainment is ok not great, saying all that would I return most definitely the STAFF are amazing could not rate them highly enough the food is of a high standard and the resort location itself is superb the beach being excellent the concept of being able to use the other Riu hotels in the resort is a great plus so If your considering this hotel just do a little research on a room revamp and it’s the place to go.

Will definitely be back!!!
After traveling to the Riviera Maya 30+ times over the years at 5 star adult only resorts, we took a recommendation from a co-worker to try the RIU Palace brand and we are so glad we did!! This property is now in our top 3 and we can’t wait to return. Shout out to all the wonderful staff and Elaina the Asst Mgr of the property whose work clearly showed throughout the week. The food quality was really excellent and the entertainment was off the chain with the White Party at Tequila across the street on Friday night. The beach was the most beautiful of any resort we’ve been to. No complaints at all.
