Part of a special part of the world
We went for our 20th wedding anniversary and had a nice card and gift of a fruit platter. Having stopped at a few RIUs we thought we knew what we were getting, but - it was easier to get booked into one of their restaurants - some RIUs we never quite made it over a two week holiday. The team working across the whole of the hotel - were exceptional - they wanted you to have a good time - they were so friendly, so welcoming, and felt equally sad when customers were leaving. I only have two things that I would want to be improved…security should move the guys from the bottom of the steps who are offering the visitors ‘snow’ and a ‘smoke’ - I didn’t see anyone take him up on his offer The second… is the Gluten Free selection, needs to be vastly improved - especially to support visitors with coeliac disease. The teams working in the kitchen didn’t understand coeliac disease, which I appreciate - but further into Nassau they did, so there is a learning need of how to cater. Having a pasta salad in the middle of other salads, can cause cross contamination and in a hotel where there is a vast number of fryers to have one available or a pan of oil to cook non contaminated food would be appreciated by many. Lactose free options were few and far between, so I would steer clear if you are GF and DF and vegetarian as you can have a salad. My husband however, if you don’t have any allergies said the food was amazing and always fresh - so it’s great for the many. We didn’t do the entertainment so can’t comment on this element. Pool was clean and warm, and the waitresses/waiters walking around getting drinks were worth their weight in gold - the bar can get exceptionally busy. It’s a small hotel compared to other - but its adult only and you can see the sea - and a larger portion of the sea from all of the rooms (we were on the 14th floor). Housekeeping was sometimes a bit hit or miss - sometimes I had to call for towels, or mugs for hot drinks, but the rooms were always cleaned to a high standard and as soon as you asked for something - like magic - it appeared! There is a local gift shop, but its located at the bottom of the drive - its expensive and there are shops 20 minutes walk away which are cheaper - but one we went in, most of the shelves were empty. On the whole we had a great time and were sad to leave this bit of paradise, I would come back for winter sun again - temperature and people were perfect.

Would Not Return
If you are looking for a basic, no-frills, you get what you pay for resort then this might be the place for you. We have been to several other RIU resorts in the Caribbean that we really enjoyed but we would not return to this one. For starters, the majority of the staff (with a few notable exceptions) act like they are bothered to be there-not the friendly reception we are used to from other resorts. We were supposedly given a "room upgrade" when we arrived which I thought was great-until the room had a broken door handle, a TV that didn't work and overlooked the refrigeration coolers. When I went downstairs to have them give me my original room back, I was met with immediate resistance. They told me to check back tomorrow and maybe they can change my room (not a warm welcome for sure). After traveling all day and being exhausted, we stayed in the room for the night. When I went down in the morning to reception, I was met by Quetiee, who was very helpful and welcoming, and my room was changed. Our housekeeper did a very good job cleaning the room, but it is a struggle to get shower towels every day. After being gone from the room for several house, we would return to a clean room but no towels-I had to track a housekeeper down in the hall every day. Food-for us we did not enjoy the food. We are very basic eaters but found the buffet food to usually be cold and less than fresh. We did go to three of the restaurants (Krystal, Kulinarium, and Bahamas) and they were ok, a nice change from the monotony of the buffet. You have to book all restaurant reservations from their RIU app, which can be a difficult process to navigate, we heard several other guests complain that they were unable to get reservations. Shout out to Agatha and Lamarco who were friendly, professional and trying to make sure you had a pleasant experience in the restaurants. Pools were nice and heated which was appreciated because the weather was chilly a few days. Beach is nice, and the beach attendants work hard bringing out and setting up your beach chairs. There are people who approach you on the beach to sell tours, goods, etc., and though they were very polite, it can be annoying after a while to keep saying no thank you. There is a 24-hour bar where you can get popcorn, pizza, etc. It was usually not the cleanest but an ok place to hang out. With the exception of Viviana who was always trying to provide friendly excellent service, most of the other bartenders and servers seemed annoyed (and we always tip, so that didn't even help). As far as Activities, the staff does try to provide some activities around the pool (aerobics, dance, volleyball), but it seemed exactly the same every day. We did not attend any of the nighttime entertainment. We did walk (about 15 min) walk to Atlantis a couple of times for lunch and the casino). In conclusion, this in my opinion is probably a cost-effective, barely 3-star option for an economical vacation. It does not measure up to the other RIU's I have visited in the Carribean.

First experience at RIU all inclusive
Hotel and grounds were immaculate. Food was good and there was plenty of it. All staff were very helpful and if there was an issue the response was prompt. Appreciated the availability of the special restaurants for dinner service via reservation. TV service in room was choppy. Suspect they have satellite TV which is often affected by the weather conditions. THAT was the only negative other than the room safe not working. Had a wonderful experience for first visit to the Bahamas.
