Not a 5* Resort
It’s really hard for me to write review for Riu Republica. We have arrived around 11 pm on Sunday night. Even though we pre check in online it still took about 20 min to check us in. No one was available to take us to our rooms. We were changing rooms till 3 am. This resort is very run down and poorly maintained. Parts of the resort stink like sewage. I should have read the reviews before booking. It’s a party resort geared to college students. Rooms are dirty, mouldy and rusty. Fridge is full upon arrival, then if you need anything you need to request on their app… needed water, sent message in the morning, within 2 hrs got message back that it was full filled… came to room no water, called reception was told that water will be delivered, came back from dinner- no water, after second call to reception water was delivered around 11pm. After that if I needed anything I asked cleaning ladies on my way out in the morning. Food is okay, most speciality restaurants are buffet form as well. Except for stake house where meal was good. Pools and beach have many loungers yet lots are either moldy or broken. In a week I was able to get pool towels only twice… If you want a 5 star experience and relaxation go to another resort. We were trying to change hotel to real 5* but Sunwing representatives wanted way too much money on top of what we already paid. This is first resort in 20+ years of travel that do not recognize returning clients (one in our party of four visited this resort pre Covid and it had different vibe then) All in all we will not return to this resort.

Not Please
No wash clothes, food was okay, room was clean but this is an old hotel, tv never worked. Tech came 10:45 pm checked on it left and never returned. AC worked at times. My buddy had bed bugs in his room. We seen a lot of sand ants in our room and bath..

Never again
Frequent RIUs customer so was expecting a good service but ... This is deffo not 5* hotel - our mattress filthy and mouldy discovered at the last day when my partner was looking for her jewellery and looked under the bed... So we did find out finally the reason for strong stinky room smell. It was covered with doubled mattress cover that's why not discovered earlier - no air conditioning so the room temperature 25++ and after 3 days of rain due to the sewers leaked out with extreme smell everywhere thousands mosquitos occupied the balcony. - we come to empty mini bar and was topped up once during our stay - we had our room mopped only once during our stay - a day before we were leaving the room service has hanged back the towels that we have left on the floor for exchange. Easy to recognise as after the buggies experience those were with yellow sand spots - no hot water for 6 out 7 days !! - the pools wasn't clean either - people were parting and sha**ing there till late night and they were cleaning them with fishing buckets 7am when we were leaving for our trips - food was good in general but there was always 1 dish that they prepared with the meat leftovers from previous day lol A drunk waiter told us the story applaused by another 2/3 individuals In general a huge disappointment

Trash!
Terrible service. Food was lousy and always cold. Room air conditioner not working. No hot water to shower. Rooms smelled like sewage. They did not stock the fridge the entire week. Ice machines didn't work. Very dirty environment. Pools were dirty. Bartenders were good. Do not book here. Needs an entire renovation. No room.servuce.

Decent party place for younger crowds
Travelled to Riu Republica from Toronto on Nov 3 through sunwing vacations for one week. Price was $1650 CAD including flight and transfer. This resort is geared towards the college spring breaker type. You'll enjoy it if you are young and looking to go to various parties where wild things do happen. Access to pretty much everything is easy. If you have some extra cash and want more elegance/relaxation/luxury I recommend riu palace Macao instead. It is a very large property with 6 pools and tons of places to eat and get drinks. The food is decent and lots to choose from. The jersey hut is great. The specialty restaurants are OK but are mostly repurposed food from the buffet. The beach is nice with many small palm trees and places to get shade. You can walk in either direction for miles. The waves are very strong in the water which is fun but also dangerous. The water slides are a lot of fun. The entertainment shows are OK. If you are drunk all the time with friends it's a fun place and you'll barely notice the pain points. But there are a lot of pain points to mention...The college aged visitors are loud and scream all night long which you can hear from your room as they parade down the halls. The resort is weathered down and poorly maintained. The towels, bed sheets, furniture, is all pretty worn. There is a nasty stink in certain areas of the resort. There is poor customer service. We had a problem with the fire alarm in our room which kept blinking red and they were never able to fix it even after we mentioned it 3 times. I just had to cover my eyes with a tshirt as i was too lazy to change rooms by that point. Some days there was no hot water in sink and shower. Some days there were no pillow cases available so we had to use our tshirts to cover them. One day I got sick and threw up in the night, not sure if it was from the food or if I just caught a bug from someone. The pools are quite nasty, but that's expected when everyone is drinking in the pools nonstop and nobody seems to get out to go to the toilet. Overall it's about a 3 star resort. Better to spend the extra cash and opt for a riu palace instead.
