Our Last Time @ Riu
Good service (most times), good food, good facilities. -When the cleaner came to the room, she left the dirty dishes in the room. -No cream for coffee? Only 1 serve in the coffee package and no cream in any of the restaurants. -Unfortunately my husband was going through an emergency (inguinal hernia) and he threw up, we called the front desk to send someone to change the trash can and it took a long time. -Excellent customer service desk rep (Nayeli) she was VERY helpful throughout some phone calls to a credit card.

A solid 4 star.
Family of 9, 6 adults, 2 teenagers, 1 baby. Clean hotel, nicely renovated Junior Suites. Buffet one of the best I have seen at a 4 star. Al A Cartes good ,but not great. Have never experienced buffet style A La Cartes before. Limited seating as well. Stand in line before 530 or tough to get in steak and fine dining one. Pools clean , limited poolside service , but bar close by with 4 or 5 preparing drinks so line goes fast. Good food poolside. Sports bar good, open 24 hours. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a solid resort that isn't a 5 star. Feel free to contact me with any questions. sbclimenhaga@sasktel.net

Clean nice hotel. Excellent staff.
Overall, this is a really great place to stay. There are a few negatives but so minor it should not impact booking here or not. I'm picky about my coffee and struggle to find some in the morning other than the restaurant. Finally found a good latte later morning in sports bar. This is also the first place I've stayed where I didn't prefer eating in the à la cart vs the buffet. The Asian is full buffet and they ran out of quite a bit of food. The other negative is the lack of bar service around the pools and on the beach. This is the first place I've stayed where it hasn't been regular but instead, it was nonexistent except for one day of 7 days. Everything else was positive. Everything was very clean, including the pools and rooms. The entertainment staff is excellent. The buffet food is the best I've experienced other than a few five star resorts. But really good and I was never hungry! The beach is quite nice and a lot of chairs. Only one day did we struggle finding chairs at the pool otherwise we were pretty lucky. However, I do encourage management to enforce the no saving chairs for longer than an hour. I've been to resorts where the staff will remove items and take them into a secure place so that others can use the chairs when they are there and ready, and I truly appreciated this. It can be so frustrating seeing all the chairs saved, and no one there until very late in the afternoon at times. There are so many other positives and too many to list. With a few improvements, I actually feel this could be a five star resort. But overall, a really great family holiday and I would return to this resort, especially if they made a few changes.

Vacation
This was our 2nd year staying at Riu Vallarta. Our experience with staff was always excellent. Love the rooms, the views; the buffet has a good variety selection of food, although some could be a little better quality. My only other mild complaint is chair coverage at the pool. There seems more people than chairs available. It's kinda a game to be played to "Reserve" a pool chair. Overall a great trip!
