Great place with great beach
Got upgraded to a better room when arrived. Took a few days to figure things out, where said was, events and such, but that's typical. Fun pools and with access to nearby Riu resorts, lots of options! Will definitely be back!

Amazing vacation
My husband and I were vacationing from Jan23rd to Feb6th. Loved this resort! Very clean and the grounds are beautiful. Pools are nice. Beach is very nice. Rooms are nice and comfortable . Service was excellent. Staff very nice and helpful. Food was amazing. The only down fall about this place is there is no bathrooms on the beach. To go to the bathroom you had to climb a flight stairs and was not close by. This is hard for people with any kind of disability .I want to thank all the staff for their service and kindness made our vacation so memorable.

Palace Mexico
Always been great for the many times I’ve been there. In desperate need of an update. White towels in the rooms were often stained. Buffet items would run out and no ones seemed to be in a hurry to replenish. We pay a premium to stay there. When you get to the beach in the morning, it is sometimes impossible to get loungers. There should be different colours for the Palace loungers because often Riu guests from the other resorts had taken them over to their side or would use them on the Palace side with no one to stop them. Once again I am paying a premium price to use the Palace resort.

The good and not so good
To start, we always stay at RIU's, in different countries. This stay at RIU Palace Mexico we booked with Sunwing the Superior Junior Suites and was worth the bit of extra money for the better balcony view. Time from airport to resort is approximately 2.5 hours. From the time the plane landed, we collected luggage, security check, then outside waiting for the bus/van and drove to the resort is 2.5 hours. The actual drive from the airport to the resort is a little over an hour. tip: Make sure you take a washroom break at the airport before you go outside to wait for the bus/van. Things we liked: bottled/can beer and pop in all the restaurants and bars. The room was so clean and bed comfortable and the the mini bar had plenty of beers, water and pop. We needed extra hangers and towels and a quick phone call they were delivered to us. The beach was clean and so pretty, we had a few days of seaweed and the red flag was up for the week which made for bigger waves. If you want a specific spot at the beach then we had to be out by 6:30am. We tried some of the a la carte restaurants and they were good but we did prefer the buffet with more variety to pick from. Things that we were not so happy about. Lunch: there is only one restaurant open for lunch and it's down by the pools/beach, it gets old having to go to the same place each day. There is a small bbq open for lunch right at the beach with hamburgers, hotdogs, fries and nacho chips. Since the room is open concept you can see from the bed and from the balcony right into the bathroom/shower with no privacy, however some rooms did have a makeshift curtain divider. Ask for one of those rooms. People who smoke on their balcony making it uncomfortable for others in next rooms. The nighttime entertainment was just "ok", nothing great but it passed the time. There is only one bathroom for all the people at the beach and the pools and the restaurant so there is always a lineup. The pools were just ok so spent our time at the beach instead. Would we return to the RIU Palace Mexico again? Probably not, but nothing against the resort we just like trying different RIU's in different countries.

Great 1st time stay at RIU
Food - family thought some of the best food we've had at all inclusives, lunch buffet had a huge selection and varied it daily so didn't feel like you were eating same thing every day, at night chose the themed restaurants over buffet and only one night had to wait 30 minutes to get in Facility - very clean, staff was always picking up dirty glasses, sweeping, wiping things down. They were even moping spills up during the RIU Party Beach - absolutely fantastic! Very large beach area Staff - Can't say enough wonderful things about everyone we encountered. Extremely friendly, very helpful and lots of staff on hand. Need to give a shout out to one of the guys serving drinks around the pool - Pastor! This guy was fantastic and speedy! Hate to see how many calories he burned running around. Pool area - several pools in one area so a little tight with everyone in the loungers but not horrible. The adult pool with the swim up bar was never too crowded Entertainment - we are used to bigger shows going on so probably the only downside. There were shows each night but mostly just musical groups. Did go over to the Tequila for the RIU party one night Resort - I do prefer a little more traditional vibe and this was a little Miami Vice glam, but was comfortable and clean.
