Drugging Incident at Pool Bar - Riu Palace Paradise - December 14th 2024
This was my 4th or 5th time at the Riu Palace Paradise Island, with my last visit being in 2019. Unfortunately, this trip was a major disappointment, and I feel compelled to share my experience. My cousin and I visited the resort for a brief 4-day getaway from the cold. On Friday, December 13, we were relaxing at the pool, trying to make the most of a chilly, windy day, when we decided to get in the pool since the water was warmer than the air. Throughout the afternoon, I had two drinks, the same as my cousin. At one point, my cousin went back to our room to use the bathroom and grab more cash. While she was gone the bartenders served a round of shots to a group of women, and one of those shots was given to me. When she returned, I could no longer stand or speak. She had to carry me back to our room on the 10th floor, all while I was stumbling and falling in the elevator. I was in such a state that I collapsed in the hallway, resulting in bruises, cuts, and a large bump on my temple. Once in the room, I fell asleep for about six hours, waking up intermittently, violently vomiting and disoriented. I had no recollection of how I ended up in the room or who helped me get there. It was a terrifying experience. When we spoke to the security team and management to report the incident, David, the security guard, was dismissive and cold. He claimed it was simply due to drinking in the sun and not managing my liquor. He also mentioned that alcohol in the Bahamas is stronger than what we're used to back home (which is recorded). As a 41-year-old woman who had only two drinks and a shot over the course of 3 hours, I know my limits and I am certainly not a lightweight or an alcoholic. We asked for a report to be filed and for the police to be contacted. However, they refused to call the police, suggesting that it would be pointless. They offered no help, not even reviewing the security footage or following up the next day to check on my condition. It was as though they didn’t take the situation seriously. Instead, they treated me like a teenager who had overindulged during spring break. This experience ruined one entire day of our 4-day vacation and left me with lasting concerns about my safety. Beyond this, I was disappointed by other aspects of the resort: difficulty getting dinner reservations, key cards that never worked, a useless app, and poor room service. Not to mention, the lack of security measures in the rooms, such as deadbolts or latches, made me feel unsafe. . In short, this hotel is not what it used to be, and I strongly recommend others to be cautious, especially women traveling alone or in small groups. I will be contacting Riu head office, but I wanted to get this review done first to prevent women from booking here. Stay safe

Stay was okay
Room is clean, staff is friendly and helpful. The pools are all heated clean. The food is okay, the restaurants have to have reservations but we’re all booked the day we checked in, if you check back they sometimes have later ones pop up. There is a convenience store at the bottom of the driveway. We stayed at the Riu in Aruba before and they set the bar real high. Bahamas Riu was just okay comparable.

Lovely Time for 10th Anniversary - Would highly recomend!
This is our 3rd Riu stay (first in Bahamas) and hotel and rooms were updated and well maintained. A bit busy when checking in, but they immediately brought more staff over and opened lines to help make process quicker. Our king room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. I have difficulty sleeping but slept very well. The beach was a little too rough, being on the Atlantic side, but sand very soft and no rocks. Both pools were very nice. My husband and I both thought the food was very nice. They need to work on the Riu App and make it easier to book dinner reservation at the restaurant, but we spoke to front desk, and they helped us out. I had a made to order omelet every morning and lots of fresh fruit and juices to select from. Most of the staff was very nice, however, there were a few that needed to work on their hospitality skills. We would both recommend.
