A Good Resort for the Money

This was my second visit to Decameron. I was there in January of 2015 so essentially ten years ago, A lot of it was familiar. First, let's take care of the confusion. This resort has changed its name from Royal Decameron to Grand Decameron. They are the same place. What's confusing is that while marketed as Grand Decameron, the Royal Decameron name is still emblazoned on the front of the hotel. Many years ago, this was a resort where clothing was removed and this was prior to 2015. There were still remnants left, at that time, from those days such as suggestive artwork around the hotel. This has been removed but take a look at your shower door and you will see a naked man and woman entwined together. It's in good taste and don't worry, it's unlikely that the kids will notice this. Somer good changes include free Wi-Fi and the safe in the room is free as well. Both of these used to command an additional price. My WestJet Vacations itinerary still stated that there would be a $3USD charge per day for use of the safe but just disregard that piece of incorrect information. One thing that hasn't changed is that the safes are not actually bolted down, so use your own discretion regarding how secure you believe your valuables will be in the room. My safe failed on first attempt but luckily, I tested it before putting anything into it because they were unable to fix it and wanted to cart it away. The resort only has one buffet and one à la carte restaurant so you have limited eating choices. The à la carte actually serves as a snack bar during the day but while it's labelled as a snack bar, it's a sit-down meal with service from a menu. The resort was not busy during our December stay so it was that much more pleasant, not having any food line-ups. Food is okay with sufficient variety. There is the typical entertainment activities during the day and an evening entertainment show. The adult pool is nice. It involves climbing stairs as it is elevated but here you get a nice view of the beach and ocean. It also has a swim-up bar as does the main pool below. The pool is considerably warmer than the others. You can walk to the old town of San José del Cabo which is nice but it will take you 30-45 minutes. You can also take a bus or cab. Overall, I would say that the resort has improved over the years. You get a reasonable return for your money in the form of a very pleasant vacation and reasonably good service. The water at the beach is a bit rough but you can swim with care. The pools are preferable. If you like to sit on the beach, there is a very walkable massive beachfront area. The resort's website lists a mini bar but there is no mini bar. Your fridge will remain empty of beer and soft drinks. One large bottle of water is provided per day. This is just a summary of a nice resort. If you want a lot of variety in food and a selection of restaurants including refreshments in your room, this would not be the resort for you. However, you can get plenty of whatever you need in the resort. There was no issue with securing chairs at the pool. They do not use towel cards which is a plus. Just give them your room number. I would recommend this resort as a good choice if you can get it at a good price. If you are lucky, you will get to see hatching turtles right on the beach at the resort.

Great time at Royal Decameron Los Cabos

Very fun and clean resort. All the staff was helpful and friendly. Fun pool side activities all day. Hardly ever waited for drinks or food. Highly recommend for a nice getaway. Alejandro Lopez was a great bartender, very kind and a joy to be around. "Cantinero favorito" as we liked to say. Thank you for a great vacation!!!

    Decameron Dec.9 - 16

We were on the first floor and upstairs from us there were some young people and woke us up early every morning. The bed was very comfortable and had good AC. The sitting area by the patio door was very nice to have. On the other hand the WIFI was not great. I recommend using a data esims. I used Hollyfly and it worked great. The food was very good and so was the service. The restaurant a la carte is by the sea of Cortez and some nights it was cold with the strong wind. The adult pool is only a sit pool but very warm. The other 2 pools are a bit cooler. We went to the art walk in San Jose which is 45min walk, worth to see. I used the gym everyday as I was recovering from knee surgery but the AC in there was not working to keep the room very cool but with all the window and the sun, it doesn't help but you do have a nice view of the ocean. Some of the exercise equipment needs to be fixed and updated. Decameron is only 30min from the airport. We were never approached for time share or membership which seem to be the new term. We really appreciated that. Cabo airport is very nice but super expensive. I wish there was a way you could bring your own water. The temperature was perfect for me, always below 30 and not lower then 24. Some morning it might have been a bit cooler but the son warm up quickly. One of the highlight was the night shows and the bartender. He was very entertaining.

    Very Quiet Resort

A very relaxing hotel, the buffet had a different theme every night repeating weekly and alot to choose from, did the alacarte half of the 2 week stay. 2 different menus, 4 course and alot to choose from. Never the less we ate well. A large variety of drinks to choose from and the service was very polite. Our room was on the 1st floor so we could walk out into the garden or sit on the patio and have a coffee in the morning or nightcap in the evening. The entertainment was a hit and miss. Mexican band or solo singers on odd nights, balance was karaoke (not that popular). We went the first 2 weeks on December and the hotel was 40 % capacity (if that) which made the experience even more relaxing. Towels on pool chairs were never required as you could move around the pool to follow the sun with ease. Family hotel but maybe 5-6 families with small children but very quite. 20 min walk to the Art walk and markets in San Jose del Cabo or a $4.00 bus ride to the Marina in Cabo San Lucas. Definitely coming back.

    Best vacation ever

Excellent installations, clean common areas , staff are so helpful and friendly. Immediate response when you need help , weather is at the restaurants, bars janitors . Not too in the crowd, nice and relaxing place to stay , weather you want to spend some time in the swimming pool and go to the beach . I’m so glad I had to experience the release of the baby turtles. That was an amazing experience that I never thought I was going to be part of when I stay at this resort . I loved that I was part of that , helping the the baby turtles going in to the sea for the first time in their lives. It was a great vacation and I I said before great experience.
