Friendly and helpful staff
Overall our stay was very nice. Jesus Torres, Irving and Eduardo Butlers were all AMAZING!! All it took was a quick text and they had everything arranged and reservations made. Truly wonderful people. All the staff was very polite and helpful. The pool area needs more seating. When going to the pool at 8 in the morning, all chairs were "spoken" for, as there were towels on the chairs to save them.

Royalton Riveria Cancun Review - Solid 3.5/5
This is my full and open review of the Royalton Riveria Cancun Resort. My family, party of 7, vacationed at this resort March 2 - March 8 2025. Things the most honest review you’ll find about the resort. I will preface by saying that I’ve been to Cancun about 20 times and generally always stay at 5 star adults only resorts. This was a family vacation with my infant daughter so we booked here hoping it would meet our needs as a family. Room We booked the Luxury Chairman’s 2 Bedroom Ocean View Diamond Club room for our stay in building 4. Overall, the room was good. I would rate it a 3/5. Our stay would not have been as enjoyable without this large room. The room had a pool table, full patio area, outdoor tub and the 2 bedrooms had a king bed and 2 queens. We were also provided 2 rollaway beds. There were areas of the room that were damaged or broken and we needed service for a broken light and shower drain issue during the stay. While we did have a lot of space, the furniture was very uncomfortable and the beds left a lot to be desired; they were extremely firm. From a distance, the room seems great, but lots of little maintenance issues were present when looking up close. (Note: This applies to the resort as a whole as well, pictures attached). Service Service was a solid 4.5/5. We never had an issue with the service we received. Specifically, our butlers Rick, David, and Marlon were outstanding. They made the trip all the more enjoyable and were available for our every request. They helped with everything we asked, from dinner reservations every night, additional needs for the room, weighing luggage, and escorting us around the resort as needed. The only area of complaint for us was it seems that the resort is running with about 75% staff. There were VERY long wait times at the bars and restaurants for service. While everyone was extremely kind and helpful, there does not seem to be enough service members for the resort guests. This is especially true for the restaurants during lunch and the coffee/ice cream shop during all hours. With us being Diamond Club members and having this complaint, I would guess to say anyone without Diamond Club was waiting double or triple the time for everything food and bar related. Housekeeping For the level of room that we paid for, I would have expected a higher level of housekeeping service. Housekeeping came to the room 2 times per day but the level of cleaning was extremely light. Trash cans were emptied and new towels were given. Beds were made in the morning and turned down in the evening. Food Overall, the food was a 3/5. We tried all of the dinner options during our stay and ate from the buffet and Diamond Club restaurants for lunch. Nothing stood out at notably great. It was pretty basic food options. With the number of people at the resort, the buffet options were not very fresh and made me nervous to eat with previous reviews noting a lot of food poisoning. I can see how that would be possible. I will note that Grazie (Italian) was the worst meal by far (1/5), no one in my group finished dinner that night. Dorado (Diamond Club - Hideaway Only) was the best meal by far (4.5/5). Hunter Steakhouse and Agave were very good options(3.5/5). Beach The beach was nice, not overly crowded, but it was not clear waters like the main Cancun area. This resort is situated before the barrier reef so the water is murky and there is A TON of seaweed and ‘ocean junk’. There are also active jellyfish warnings at all times. We booked this resort knowing this would be the case already and stuck to the pools most of the time. If you’re looking for an ideal Cancun beach, this is not the place for you. Pools The pool areas were plentiful and generally clean. Especially if you’re Diamond Club you have exclusive access to 2 additional pool areas on the resort which was worth it! The resort has 4 pool areas (Splash Park, Main, Diamond Club, Hideaway) and each of them have a different vibe. We stayed mostly in the Diamond Club and Splash Park areas as those were calmer and great for kids. If you’re looking for more of a party scene, the main pool and hideaway pool offered that. Note: The condition of the pool areas was not the best. The concrete is in disarray and you cannot walk around barefoot without pain. We came across screws on the ground and broken glass. This is something to know going to this resort; there are A LOT of maintenance issues. Thousands of them, making the place very far from perfect. Resort Condition As mentioned above, the resort is not in great condition. I would rate it a 3/5. From afar, the resort seems amazing but once you get up close, you start to see issues. Just tons and tons of maintenance issues. This isn’t important to some people, but it is something to note for those looking for a very high quality hotel. To our party of 7, it almost seems like they are going to let the hotel fall apart and rebuild later; that’s how many maintenance issues there are. Gym The gym was awesome. Other than being crowded between 8:00-10:00 am, it was one of the better gyms I’ve been to in my Cancun travels. It has a great atmosphere and is very clean. The service people there were also very kind and helpful. The gym area also allows access to the tennis and pickleball courts which we used a couple of times and enjoyed. Kids Activities My daughter is almost 2. The resort had less to offer for any child under 4. While they did have the Splash Park, which we did use, the indoor/outdoor play area is for kids 4+ and adults are not allowed to accompany their kids here. There were also evening kids activities; balloon animals, face painting, music, games which were great for kiddos 4+. Every restaurant also had kid friendly meal options. General Overall, we collectively rate this resort a 3.5/5. I probably would not return but our vacation was enjoyable and we got what we came for; quality family time, sunshine, pools and good weather.

Disappointing Conditions
We booked a deluxe ocean view family suite at this resort and were very disappointed in the condition of the room on arrival. There was used toilet paper in the middle of the floor and it was very dirty. The second bed was a pull out couch that was stained, missing cushions and torn up. The backing was coming off the bathroom mirror and tiles and paint were coming off. We were out on the second floor so there was no real ocean views. We went back immediately and told the desk we were not satisfied with the room and were told that there were no other rooms available for the next 5 days at the resort. The common grounds were much nicer and staff was responsive to requests. Also the food and restaurants were quite good. The room just desperately needed to be cleaned and repaired which really affected the enjoyment of our trip.

Girls Trip to Royalton Riviera Hideaway, Cancun
The pool staff was great, very attentive. We had a few issues checking in, we booked 2 Queen beds, were told we had to take King rooms. Came with a group and was in a completely different building not even close to our friends. Stated not being pleased about the issue, was told nothing we can do. The App for making reservations was not very user friendly. We also had issues with people getting served meals before us and they didn’t have reservations but threw a fit, so staff in Zen allowed them to sit without reservations.

Lovely setting. Clean hotel, staff really helpful.
This is a well maintained and clean hotel though obviously there are some signs of wear and tear. Staff are friendly and helpful. Diamond club definitely worth it, gives access to different restaurants and beach area. Any problems the staff quickly resolve. Few criticisms one being it can sometimes be a little hard to find shade. On windy days there is some seaweed but quickly cleared by staff. Weddings on the beach every few days. Drinks are branded and good. Taxi’s are very expensive.
- AdvisoryPlease be advised that the local government of Quintana Roo, Mexico, has updated the Environmental Sanitation Tax. Effective immediately, this tax will be charged at $79.20 Mexican pesos per room, per night.
