Sandos Finisterra: Christmas Holiday Review:
We stayed in two rooms, side by side, for about 1 week. Overall great option for families wanting an all-inclusive resort. BEST SERVICE PROVIDED BY: 1. Javier (tall and older) at Don Diego’s Christmas dinner 2024. Javier provided the best restaurant service we’ve had in a long time. 11/10 stars. He was fantastic. 2. Gauru (older gentleman) at Agave Restaurant. 3. Kioko at the Cupcake Cafe. 4. Javier (short and young) at the Tortuga Beach Restaurant. WORST SERVICE PROVIDED BY: 1. Marlen at the Cupcake Cafe. She was horribly rude with bad attitude on Christmas morning. SERVICE OVERALL = INCONSISTENT Some were great, but too many did not provide friendly and caring service. Some were incredibly bad and appeared to hate their job. ROOMS = CLEAN BUT DATED. There seems to be newer rooms for timeshare members, but we got the older dated rooms on level 1000. Turn down service was daily, but some of the small towels were stained (disgusting). A water jug dispenser is ontop the minifridge (soda and beer). One room had an old yellow water dispenser that didn’t work, no heating or cooling, it was room temp. A sticker on it said “eco friendly room temperature water” was obviously a cheap excuse to not replace with a working unit. Our other room had a new white water dispenser that worked fine. Very mediocre experience. ALCOHOLIC DRINKS = WATERED DOWN (Absolut, Smirnoff, el Himador) time share members have access to some better brands like Don Julio. Christmas dinner at Don Diego’s was the only time I was happy with my drinks, all other days the drinks were watered down. RESTAURANT SELECTION & QUALITY = OVERALL GOOD Breakfast = Buffet at Don Diegos (good) Lunch = Agave (good) Dinner = Buffet / Don Diegos (OK), Steak at Agave (good), Seafood at Tortuga Beach Resteaurant (good), “Italian” at Emilios (bad) Mid-day snacks are “poolside pizza, tacos, and sushi.” DAILY ENTERTAINMENT = GOOD Fernando hosted a lot of the entertainment, and he was great (silly and funny). His Tequila Tasting Class and Movie Trivia events were great. Best show = White Party Fire Show (both kids and adults loved it) Pirate Show and Christmas shows were fine for the kids but on the boring side for adults. RESORT EXTERIOR BEAUTY = GOOD The resort grounds appear maintained well, mostly clean and well kept. Unfortunately The Playa Grande Resort blocks a lot of the ocean view from Sandos’s main building. The best views are at the top levels: Whale Watching Bar and outside the Cupcake Cafe. Viewing the marina side shows the performing dolphins pool and cityscape. Sandos Finisterra opened in the 1970s as “Hotel Finisterra” and is one of the oldest resorts in the area. The standard rooms were dated, but the other aspects of the hotel appeared reasonably updated for the times. Overall Sandos is worth considering, and provided some great moments over Christmas Holiday, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

Where they make you feel like family
We have been to Sandos Finisterra 7 or 8 times in the last 10 years. We have to come to feel like some of the workers are like family. That should tell you how great they are. I absolutely love the place while my wife likes it but I would not say loves it. We have stayed in both the ocean view junior suites and the actual suites near Don Diego restaurant. I find the junior suites to be very nice with fantastic views (as long as you get a higher floor), very spacious, comfortable beds, a well stocked mini bar and a large jug water for drinking. The top shelf suites do not have nearly as nice of a view as the junior suites but they are definitely a step up in quality. The linens for example are great in the suites but not as nice in the junior suites. I would like to see these upgraded. They have Nespresso coffee makers in the suites and a small drip style in the junior suites. I do drink the Nespresso when available but do not bother with the drip coffee makers. I instead go pick up our cappuccinos at the Cupcake Cafe every morning (and they came to remember my order). The suites also have upgraded toiletries which are very nice. Overall both room grades are very nice. As far as the restaurants go, we enjoy the breakfast buffet at Don Diego's a lot with many selections of fresh fruit and made to order eggs or omelettes. It starts a great day to sit out on the patio and have mimosas in the morning warmth. We typically eat at all the restaurants but this year we were disappointed with the Italian restaurant Emilianos. I usually get the fettuccine carbonara which has always been good but this time was quite dry and not very pleasing. This was also the only restaurant where the waiter implored us to write a review on TripAdvisor and mention his name (which I found tacky and did not write this review because of his encouragement). We did not eat dinner at the Agave Steakhouse but did enjoy a couple of lunches there. They make great shrimp tacos. We did not have pizza by the pool this year but have enjoyed that in the past. We had our best meal at Tortuga Beach. The meals seem a cut above the other restaurants and our time is always made very special because of our dear friend Alberto. Over the years we have come to be good friends with Alberto and he is truly one of the best people who work at Sandos Finisterra. He goes out of his way to make our stay incredible. We love Alberto. Overall our experience at Sandos Finisterra is always a good time. The property is clean and the pools are great. But again, it is the people who make it so special. We always see Nicki the general manager out and about eating in the restaurants and talking with guests. She is clearly on top of things. A special call out to some of the workers who do all they can to make us feel welcome and make our stay special. Alvaro at the bellman's desk makes us feel welcome from the moment we arrive. Francisco in the lobby bar is someone we always look forward to seeing. Enrique and Jorge at breakfast in Don Diego make us feel like family. We met Luis this year in the Whale Watchers Bar and he was a great host (bartender). And lastly Jose Mty and Gabriel at the pool are always there with cold drinks and food. Norma has always been great at the pool as well but she was not there and I am not certain if she still works there. Most all of these folks recognize us when we arrive and they really make us feel welcome. Thank you Sandos Finisterra for all of the great memories.

Tanya at Stones club was the best bartender !!!! She made the best drinks with a smile, and was very , made us all want to come back to the club, I can't wait for another trip to Sandos to see and get some creative drinks, the music was great and the vibe was so fun

Do not stay here!!!
They double charged for one of our rooms and we are still waiting for a credit, 8 days later. Rooms are gross! Very old and dirty! Black mold in the shower!! Smoke alarms have gone off and loud AC that keep us up at night and wake us up early in the morning. Fitness center, floors have holes in them!!! Food is below average. We have chosen to go out to eat for dinners so we could have a good meal. Very disappointed!!! There are so many better options! Only positive is the entertainment team!!
