Read this before you think of staying and Sandos
Hi 3 years ago I got suckered into a club membership. So I have come to accept that it is what it is. We are back and have stayed for 6 nights, the 5 of us, wife and three kids. It is very disappointing coming here and knowing how much you have spent on this place. First of be aware that if you have a family of 5 Playacar is the only resort in there chain who can accommodate you unless you want to pay for two rooms. We are in a hacienda, I truly was dumb to think that the one they gave us was going to be like the one they showed us when convincing us to become members. The sliding door was hanging by one screw, the bathroom looked ancient the floor and mirror were stained but hey this is the upgrade. The chacuzi was semi working. The jets were working but the water was not hot at most it wasn’t cold. Remember in case you forget there are 8 haciendas in total sharing the mini pool and jacuzzi. Each room can hold up to 5 people. To me the worst thing of all is the service. I don’t blame the staff but management. The staff is very strict like your in some school house. If you go outside there parameters they become rude and snappy. Example it’s 3 minutes till the coffee shop opens. Inside are confortable seats and it’s air conditioned. At least 20 seats. No line no one around I come in to sit and they were quick to stop me from sitting. Example, my wife asked for a cocktail at the bar so she could take it to the common area where they have a stage and entertainers. THIS Is the Bar just for club members. They told her no you can’t take the drink out of the bar my wife was confused by such rules but the bartender became rude. So service not so bueno. One last thing The discount you get for reservations as a club member are at par or more expensive than booking normally. This is because they want to incentivize bringing in Moore suckers. Every resort in Cancun or playa de Carmen is doing the same. Be mindful there methods are based on you not being rude. So be rude and say no and they will move on. If not they will continue to nag you and even calling you room in the morning while you’re still sleeping. Sincerely AF MSgt Ret

Sandos playacar
The food at the resort was awesome. Beach is beautifull. Staff is friendly. I would come back on a heart beat. The shop on site did not feel like tourist trap like other place for most of the resort. There was not too much people trying to scam you on the beach also. Good resort for the familly.

There is no way the 5 star reviews are real! BEWARE
It should be illegal for resorts to operate in this condition. The room we had was filthy, old and smelly. We literally had to fight worms or caterpillars in our room every single day. The room was not cleaned properly upon check in and when we complained to the hotel manager Miguel, he sent someone to "clean" and she only swept up the dead bugs. The shower was yucky and the sink area was gross both areas had mildew. The bathroom mirror needs replacing and did I mentioned the worms/caterpillars? Just an overall rip off - there is no way this is a 5 star hotel! Don't believe me? Look at the picture of the antibacterial wipe - see that dirt? That's from wiping the table, 10 minutes after walking into the room, so are the pics of the dead bugs. Disgusting. I asked for a refund to go stay at another resort, instead I was promised that I would be moved to a better room - that did not happen, the staff gave me the run around until I gave up. What was supposed to be a pleasant trip, turned out to be a complete nightmare. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Terrible experience
Do NOT stay at the Sandos PlayaCar! We were a group of 4 adults that spent a week at this resort at the end of November into early December 2024. 4 out of 4 of us all had food poisoning which we contracted from 3 different restaurants on the resort at three different nights, Gourmex, El Gaucho and Le Gourmet. It got to the point where we were afraid to eat anything prepared at the resort. Although the staff were friendly, rooms were ok…all be it aging and in need of updating, but clean, it is impossible for me to give this resort anything more than 1 star. I have never been so sick on a vacation, and we were NOT the only ones this happened to during our time there! When I informed the resort of our experience during check out, nobody cared or even asked for any additional information so that they might get a handle on the unsafe food!
