Chill and laid-back…
We had a relaxing vacation at Secrets Huatulco. It seems all the rooms have a ocean view. The higher the floor, the better the views. The beach has yellow coarse sand but in late afternoon when the setting sun casts a warm glow on it, it turns sparkling golden, and it was my favourite time for beach walking. Be sure to watch the spectacular sunrise and sunset too! The resort offers a lot of activities to keep you busy: yoga, pickleball, archery, water aerobics, kayak, and standup paddle board, etc. during the day and shows and live music at night. So we didn’t bother to join any excursions and didn’t feel bored during our 8D7N stay. There are 6 a la carte restaurants: Castaways (Steak house), Bordeaux (French), CinCin (Italian), Tamarindo (Mexican), Spice (Asian), and Oceana (Seafood). They are first come first served except for the teppanyaki at Spice which need reservation a couple of days in advance. There is also a grill buffet dinner by the pools twice a week. We were able to try a different cuisine every night during our stay. The best part of the resort is the staff. They are always ready to help with a smile. A big thank you to Alexis, who recently joined the resort as an assistant manager for food and beverage. He loves to hear feedbacks and recommendations and he went out of his way to make our meals special. We bumped into him all the time because he works so hard that he even stays after work, getting around in different restaurants to make sure everything is good. Feel free to ask him anything. I would also like to thank Elizabet from the Market Cafe for all the delicious soups she makes every day. By the way, it was also very fun to see the Iguanas and coatis at the resort.

Thumbs up to all our Mexican friends at Secrets Huatulco
This is our 7th time returning to the resort and we were not disappointed. My wife fell and fractured her hip on our second day causing us to extend our week stay by an additional 7 days. Staff has been very accommodating. We would have not recd any better care and friendliness back home in Toronto. Eduardo, Karen, Phillipe, Eden, Sergio and numerous other staff went out of their way to ensure we rec'd the special care and comfort., We will definitely return next year.

Overpriced and underwhelming
We were extremely disappointed with our stay at Secrets. The resort is in need of repairs, with outdated facilities and a general lack of upkeep (dirty areas, unmaintained building facades, obvious construction, broken tiles). The food was terrible—bland, low-quality, and nothing like what you’d expect from a supposedly 5-star resort. The drinks were watered down and unimpressive, making poolside relaxation less enjoyable. Speaking of poolside, the service was poor; it took forever to get a drink or any attention from the staff. A group of friends who were staying elsewhere bought two consecutive day passes to the resort, but they were not informed that only one restaurant would be open on Christmas Day. This lack of communication was frustrating, and when they spoke to the manager, they were offered to switch their day pass dates. Unfortunately, this wasn’t possible due to their travel schedule, so they decided not to return the next day, unwilling to repeat the same poor experience. This resort doesn’t meet 5-star standards and clearly caters to tourists who are looking for a bland, mid-range North American experience at a high price. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a true luxury vacation.

Wendy at Secrets Huatulco VIP Lounge: Best Espresso Martini and Holiday Cheer!
Wendy’s warm personality and expert mixology made every moment in the VIP lounge unforgettable. Her espresso martini was absolute perfection… rich, smooth, and balanced. Her festive cheer & genuine kindness made her a highlight of the night, bringing joy and a personal touch to our experience. Wendy truly embodies hospitality at its finest and left us with wonderful memories. A Christmas delight we’ll never forget!

Just a notch below 5 stars
Overall the trip and service were fantastic. Some small fixes and this would be an even better resort. The accessibility was a bit inconvenient for guests with mobility issues. Having to walk to an elevator to go up for breakfast and lunch then back down to the beach was a bit hard for certain members of the family. Some minor cosmetic repairs in the pools but a beautiful resort with an stunning view. Huge shout outs to Mardeli (who was lovely and went above and beyond to spoil us), Carlos, Fredy, Ernesto and Saul for their exceptional service no matter where they were stationed throughout the trip. Definitely can see why so many people we spoke to have had multiple return visits.
