Lovely relaxing holiday in December
We had a very enjoyable relaxing 10 days here in December. Good location near the marina, however such a shame to see some nice shops were now closed - in fact quite a few units were empty. I imagine this used to be quite a vibrant area when first built. However, there are still a few shops to wander around and some nice bars and restaurants. We opted for half board and only used the evening buffet. This was a little mixed in terms of the quality. The salads were all great but quite a few of the hot dishes were completely overcooked, particularly the vegetables such as broccoli etc - almost inedible. We found something we liked every night though but felt the 10 days in the buffet was definitely enough. The rooms were large and we had a pool view which was nice. The room to us looked a little tired now and could do with an upgrade at some point. Particularly want to mention the fabulous SPA - best part of the hotel to be honest. On a cloudy day you could sit and chill in there all day. All the staff in the SPA were absolutely amazing! With regards to a star rating, a 5 star in a holiday resort area like this (in most holiday destinations) can't ever been compared with a 5 star in Dubai or central London for example. The comparison is pointless. Star ratings in holiday destinations, like this, really only give you a guide as to the service/quality you might expect. The more important question to ask yourself is 'did you enjoy yourself, felt you had good value for what you spent and would you return'. The answer to that for us would be a 'Yes'.

Excellent adults only resort, all inclusive preferred club
I went on an all inclusive, preferred club package and I believe it was well worth the money. We were upgraded to the swim up pool room wish we were very pleased about! Unfortunately it did not get used as the weather was not as warm as expected. The service was excellent. Range of dining places was really good. Gohan (sushi) was our favourite for dinner and Portofino (a la carte) was our favourite for breakfast. The evening entertainment was great after dinner, as drinks were on waiter service. There are also activities throughout out the day. Overall, a very pleasant experience and I would go back again, perhaps in warmer weather!

A lovely hotel ✨️
Welcomed with a glass of cava. Put in a double room at the back of the hotel, facing a car park. That was not good. Finally, I got a lovely room near some human beings. The hotel is clean and all the staff are lovely. The rooms are well serviced with good facilities. Although the coffee machine did not work, I finally got a kettle. The spa is lovely, but all jets did not work for the first hour. I reported it, and finally, they were turned on/fixed. The pool area is very pleasant and quiet. Overall, I had a lovely pleasant stay but was very disappointed with the food. The food in the World Cafe restaurant was mostly cold and uninteresting. I visited Portofino restaurant one night, and the pizza was not good. It was cold and undercooked. Management needs to do something about the food. In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel but not the food. Thank you, Secrets Lanzarote, for a pleasant stay.

Nice hotel, with some reservations.
Unfortunately, my husband was unwell on arrival, and we would like to thank Laura and Liana who went out of their way to help us find a suitable room. Also, special thanks to Alexander, the lifeguard, who helped later with an injury. The hotel is in a good, quiet position with seaside walks in both directions. Plenty of outside space and loungers. Pools look impressive but not much space for long swims as much of the depth is pretty shallow. We were glad we had chosen "Preferred' as we found the World Cafe limited in choice with poor service. Breakfast in Portofino was excellent and the Barefoot Grill in the evening was also good, with good service, but you need to dress up warm at this time of year as it is mainly outside. We enjoyed lunches at the Oceana, where you can choose to sit inside or outside very close to the sea. However, in cooler weather, there is no indoor bar or cafe outside mealtimes. There did not seem to be enough staff in most of the bars or restaurants, but perhaps that was because it was a very quiet time at the hotel. The evening entertainment is some of the best we have seen on holiday.

Secrets Lanzarote Dec 24
Firstly I would like to say we had a great time and the hotel was great. Best of all the staff were tremendous and would always go that little bit extra to add value to your stay. I can’t praise them enough. As an example we had a problem with the bathroom sliding door. I reported it in the evening and when we returned to the room at 10.30 the maintenance guy was finishing the repair. Superb. The entertainment was excellent and very professional and the bar service was top notch. A special thanks to the piano bar staff and especially the head barman and cocktail maker supreme who looked after us all week. The hotel was very clean the rooms well attended to and the special coffee rooms for preferred customers welcome. The hotel also dealt with some rowdy lads who were not in keeping with the hotel or its clientele- which was appreciated by all. I would like to turn to one or two areas where I thought the hotel did not meet the 5star rating. The food is generally good but it is not 5star. We were all inclusive preferred which gave us access to all the individual restaurants. It also allow this group of guests to have individual breakfasts in Portofino. In all honesty- not worth it. The breakfasts were mostly reheated. The croc monsieur was reheated in the microwave and did not resemble a piping hot grilled toasted sandwich. The same can be said for the other menu items. If going there, stick with the buffet items that are very good. We dined in Portofino twice and again not impressed- my wife’s Lasagna was again reheated but was not remotely hot when served as was my dish. My overall comment would be there is not a great deal of from scratch cooking going on in Portofino. We ate in the steak restaurant twice and Oceana once the experience there was far better but still not 5star. The safe bet is the world cafe - which has plenty of buffet choice, with the option of freshly- as you watch- food being prepared for you. So to sum up the food. A little disappointing but only because of the Portofino Restaurant. In terms of entertainment- as mentioned the one hour nightly performances are excellent. What would have been nice is perhaps earlier, a pianist on the grand piano in the lounge area. Whilst some of this review is critical, I would not want the reader or the hotel to think that we did not enjoy the stay or that we would not consider returning for another holiday. Many aspects of Secrets is 5star particularly the staffing, but some elements of the dining experience does, in my opinion knock the rating back a bit. Stuart Dixon
