Tell All The Secrets: Montego Bay Nightmare

A group of 10 professionals (5 couples) came together to celebrate a 40th birthday in Montego Bay. After some research, we chose Secrets, believing it would provide a premium experience. We’re in our 40s, so our expectations were simple: good food, good ambiance, and friendly service. Secrets failed miserably on all fronts. The staff acted as though every request was an inconvenience. The food? Lukewarm at best. The white and dark meat jerk chicken was dry. They ran out of coconuts. Portions were small and cold. The rooms were decent but poorly maintained, and room service (whether for food or maintenance) was agonizingly slow. This resort has so much potential to be beautiful, but it’s clear management doesn’t care. The activities were poorly advertised and sparsely attended. To make matters worse, they played the same playlist on repeat. If I never hear John Legend again, it’ll be too soon. To top it off, the rooms seemed sprayed but not actually cleaned for mold. Out of 5 rooms, 4 occupants fell ill and left with breathing issues. One staff member casually told us to "stop eating the ice" to avoid getting sick—too little, too late! We paid extra for Preferred Swim Out rooms, thinking it would elevate our experience. Don’t waste your money. The pool access isn’t exclusive, the preferred lounge isn’t worth it, and the rooms desperately need cleaning. I will say that Adia, Devon, and Lisa went out of their way to be helpful, but unfortunately, their efforts were the only highlights in an otherwise disappointing stay.

We love the Quan and only

Had a blast for our honeymoon with plenty of things and excursions to do. Quan was the most amazing entertainer we had met and was very friendly! Highly recommend him and this resort to others for a vacation or honeymoon. Never a dull moment with plenty of shows and other amenities.

    Unclean Room

I just got back from Montego bay last night and had to do a review on this place right away. Most of the people who work there were amazing. The grounds were well kept and the beach was beautiful. Plenty of food to eat and the food was average. We checked in our room around 4pm on a Friday and the room smelled of mold and mildew. I understand the climate is humid and things can get very moist and that is why they should make sure no mold is present in the rooms. I don't understand how they couldn't smell it and address it. The drapes were filthy and black (mold appearance) where it drags the floor and the little sofa was extremely soiled. Also, the faucets in the bathroom looked like they hadn't been polished in a while. There was a vast difference between the outside appearance and our room. To top it off, there were large groups staying there and no open rooms. We left our stuff and went to find something to eat and we came back to a visitor (roach) on the floor which my sister quickly killed. I called the front desk and informed them and they sent maintenance up with a can of spray that couldn't be sprayed with people in the room. He said we would have to leave the room while he sprayed and it was around 9:30pm. That was not going to happen since we had traveled all day and no where else to go. So he said he would come back in the morning after we leave the room. That didn't happen! We went through the entire room the first night looking for more but we found no more or tracks. I know this is not unique to this resort because normally people bring them when they visit, but you don't want to see one in the room you paid a lot of money to stay in. If you are going to stay at Secrets, consider paying more to stay in the preferred building to get a better room. Some family members had really nice rooms in the preferred building. I wouldn't stay in the building that we stayed in again.

    Not a 5 star

Not 5 star resort, some 5 star features in the setting and surroundings. I booked this holiday in January as a reward for myself and my other half to focus on the end of year and working so hard, which is why it’s such a disappointment to be feeling the way we do, we have been here a week so far, we had two days before being struck down with flu which has made the last 5 days a struggle, room service is slow and around by the pool the times we have managed to get out is also slow. If you want anything you would be better getting to the bar yourself. That said staff are lovely just not enough of them. We have constantly had to call to ask for a re stock on the mini bar, to date this has only been topped up once, again we have had to walk to the ice barrals around and get our own. Towels are taken as stated from the floor when you need replacements but never given until you call and chase so often left without towels, we’ve tried to limit the times they have come in as we’ve had days where we couldn’t move from bed being so poorly. Food wise, we have managed the lunch buffet twice in a week, breakfast 4 times and the a la cartes 4 times but haven’t ever been able to stay as we’ve been so weak so not had a three course yet, but from what we have had it’s definately not up to 5 star standard, we would have got bored very quickly of the same had we had to have this over the 11 night stay, it’s a shame you only have a la carte of an evening for those who may just want a buffet? Nothing like other AI resorts food wise that I have visited who class themselves as a 5 star. Guests from chatting have said the same and a few have said it’s not the resort it used to be. Apparently the tui rep has had a lot of this feedback already which I plan to give. Cabanas are mainly empty because of the huge charge extra meaning beds around the pool are limited. Shame when you pay so much this isn’t included. We’ve spent so much of our hard earned money this year to come to paradise and the natural surroundings are just beautiful but sorry Hyatt the hotel doesn’t live up to it. I only wish I’d gone with my gut and changed hotels, even after checking with my travel provider about my concerns before coming. Again to stress the staff in the main have been nothing but lovely. However the lady in the local shop ( we’ve spent a small fortune in there on pain relief) is very rude no customer service skills at all!
