The Dutch side of life !

Spent my birthday at Sonesta ocean point, entered my room to find decorations, including balloons and champagne. Thanks to Marta. This resort is Clean, has a variety of restaurants, one of which is pizza all day great Gym fully equipped and an adult has pool with live music every afternoon. Best part about Sonesta Ocean point is the ability to view the planes coming in and out over the infamous Maho Beach without key blast from beach. In addition the service is exceptional. Jonathon aka smiley brought coffee to room each morning and Cheryl at one zero pool bar is friendly and never without a smile. Would highly recommend. This resort is adult only and favors older crowd. Sister resort (Maho) does not even compare. Smells musty and is outdated but caters to families.

The only five star with no air conditioning.

The only two good things I could possibly say about this place were the staff in Azul (especially Maddy) and its close to the airport. Stayed there one night on a stop over. Luckily only there one night. Booked a deluxe junior suite advertised as an ocean view. From the picture I’d call it more of a roof view. The air conditioning in the room didn’t work. Was hot when we got there. Left it at 67. Was 74 in the morning. Really no air conditioning? One sink didn’t drain and only the rain shower head was operational. Mentioned it to the staff on checkout who seemed disinterested. At 830 we had to walk to the front of the other resort as was told the person who drives the shuttle had not shown up yet. Luckily it was only drizzling. Was not sure where Azul was nor was the hostess at Ocean Terrace. Told us to ask someone inside. The food was at Azul was average at best. The tempura was mushy as opposed to crispy. Good fresh salads. The vegan tofu was soggy. My partner called the morning cafe latte horrendous. Overall a terrible experience. Was there for less 24 hours. Never been to a five star resort with so many terrible room deficiencies and service issues.

    Honeymoon/babymoon at Ocean Point

My husband and I just stayed at Sonesta Ocean Point for our honeymoon/babymoon and overall we had a great stay. We both agreed however that if we opted to stay on the Maho Beach side and did not go with the adult only, we would have been disappointed. The cons for us were mainly with the Maho side. The staff was overwhelmingly rude, so much so that it felt like we were bothering them with any request. They lacked any and all hospitality and were not friendly whatsoever. The first night we tried The Palms restaurant, the host was rude and completely ignored our request of sitting by the water. Our server was not friendly and the food was barely edible. I ordered a frozen drink and was told there were no straws anywhere on the resort… to only find them later at the Ocean Point side. The Ocean Terrace buffet had decent food however the wait was excessive and staff again was rude. One of the servers accused me of taking someone else’s table after another server sat us there. We did not return for the duration of our stay. We mainly used the Maho side for the pool and swim up bar. The pool was beautiful and lively however you need to reserve your chairs by 6am to make sure you have a spot. They only had 2 bartenders at max making wait times high for a drink. I’d recommend bringing your own travel cups and straws if you’re staying on this side. The Ocean Point side was basically night & day in comparison. The staff was MUCH more friendly and accommodating. Azul is by far the best restaurant, Emanuella is a wonderful host and by the end of the trip knew us by name and our drink orders. Food was amazing and all of the servers were great. Vibe and views from the restaurant were beautiful. La Fontana was also great for Italian food. Dawn was a wonderful server for our private gazebo dinner which I would highly recommend. We did a couples massage at the spa which was also amazing and would highly recommend. We got to meet “Smiley” toward the end of our trip and you should definitely ask for him for any of your needs or room service. All of the staff should aspire to be as friendly as him. Overall we would stay again, but only on the Ocean Point side. The Maho side could definitely use a staff revamp.

    Amazing Experience

I love this resort! The layout is terrific, there are multiple pool areas as well as swim up rooms. The staff were friendly and very professional. Shout out to Maddy, Janneal, DeAndre, Kem and Emmanuelle! They took the time to learn our names and service was superb! This whole review is a shout out to the entire staff - the resort is clean, secure, well maintained and everywhere you look, the views are amazing. I had my first outdoor massage by Flores and it was an amazing experience. Oh, and the food was delicious 😋. Well done chefs! The only drawback a member of our party mentioned is at times you can really smell the jet fuel. If you don't like airplanes landing next door this is not the place for you. Me, I'd come back in a heartbeat. My husband very much enjoyed the planes.

    Amazing staff

Emmanuela at Azul greeted me every morning at the Azul restaurant for breakfast. She always had a smile on, called me by my name and knew exactly what my drink order was. She was a great way to start my day. Hamsley B was always happy and helpful for the breakfast service as well. All the staff at Azul for the breakfast service were amazing from the servers to behind the buffet. Excellent. Dane was a GREAT butler was always checking in making sure everything was okay. Alex greeted me when I arrived took all my information and arranged transportation for all of my tours, he was wonderful. Vigillio was always available to help and we had some great chats during my stay. All the restaurants were excellent, Azul was my favourite. My only complaint was the noise from the Sunset bar went on late a few nights, but once I brought it to the attention of Dane the issue was quickly addresses. So just be aware if you are on that side of the building.
