The website for Sugar Bay states 2 swimming pools. One is a child’s paddling pool. The main pool is very shallow going from 2 feet to 3 with concrete steps in the pool not a gradient slop. You cannot swim in this pool due to depth and size. The pool does not have filter pumps and is very murky so you cannot see the steps, hence bashing toes on concrete. We had a garden room which had a view of a concrete block. We found out it was the cesspit for the hotel when 6 people worked to clear it out on 2 days of our holiday. This precluded use of our terrace and having the doors open. (See photo). On a positive note the staff were delightful and always ready to help. Unfortunately we will not return or recommend Sugar Bay in the future.

Mar 25, 2025A good resort but a few problems.
The room was excellent - well appointed, clean and with a very comfortable king-size bed. It had a fridge, a safe and tea and coffee-making facilities. The bathroom had a walk-in rainforest shower. The best feature of the resort was the food, which was outstanding. The quality and variety of the ingredients, the preparation and the service were faultless at all three meals. However, the resort is let down by the main pool, which is far too shallow (2 to 3 feet) so it is more of a paddling pool than a swimming pool. It has a prominent sign saying “The swim-up bar pool is an adult-only pool. Children under 16 years are not permitted.” Despite this, the pool was full of children even occupying the bar stools at times. The staff took no action to enforce the rule. Another prominent sign says “At Sugar Bay we only acknowledge bums saving loungers, not towels, bags or books.” Again, this was ignored by the staff and all the loungers were reserved by various means by 07.00 every morning. There are no showers or toilets at the pool - a significant omission for a bar pool. It was disappointing that for a resort of this size there is no guest laundry on site. Laundry is sent to an outside company (US$25 for a small bag) and is returned roughly folded, not ironed. Lastly, beware of a large tree at the end of the bar area beside the stage. It has tables under it. It sheds sticky resinous sap on unsuspecting guests, leaving stains on clothes which are impossible to remove. When we informed the management of this and suggested that at least a sign should be posted to warn of this problem, we were rudely told that they were unaware of the problem. This is clearly untrue as the ground, decking and tables around the tree are covered in stains from the sap and several returning guests and members of staff told us they were aware of it.

From checking in to checking out the sugar bay was a fantastic vacation, the hotel is very modern and clean was at a other hotel last year and did not think it could be better, but how wrong could you be the sugar bay as everything, great food ,restaurants lovely gardens good beach very clean, the staff are fantastic never stop, the lads on the beach bring you a parasol in the morning, come round with cold towels and cold spray in the day, there is a good choice of drinks and cocktails at the bar , the staff all ways look happy in their work all ways speak, polite friendly and asking if you need anything, the grounds are well looked after and nice the pool is very clean and looks well, there are loads of great things you could say about sugar bay Barbados, but you will be here all day so just want to say a massive thank you to all from the cleaning lady to Justin in the buffet restaurant David at the bar and you can not forget Pedro, Hope to see you all again .

Holiday of a Lifetime
We have just returned from our’Holiday of a lifetime’ and Sugarbay did not disappoint. In fact it exceeded all our expectations. The staff were the friendliest, happiest and most accommodating we have met anywhere and really seem to enjoy being at work. The food was amazing so much choice every day. Both Umi and Sizzle were delicious and to be commended. There were always plenty of loungers available even though some were reserved early in the morning, we were always able to get a good spot on the beach.

Wonderful experience
Very good under any facts, very kindly people, food and beverages. Sunset and sea are absolutely wonderful from here. Cleaning is perfect! My personal adivice is also to try Karma spa in Hotel We will come back for sure. A greeting to Justin and at all watersport team!
