Heavenly
Beautiful understated elegance. Amazing food and service. From the moment we began our airport transfer, the service was impeccable. Outstanding room with pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean. Karen Augustin was the absolute best. We had the loveliest time and will return.

5 star plus with a reef to match!
There are a plethora of reviews and I will not focus on repeating common themes. By and large this is a simply outstanding property and well worth visiting. In a week there is not much reason to leave the property although there are many things to see and to do that are nearby. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The staff are wonderful and the butlers are incredible. There is nothing they will not attempt for you so thanks to all who added to our enjoyment (butlers of the 900's week of 2/2-2/9; staff at the dive shop [see note about the key worm eel]; beach attendants, wait staff etc). Was it all perfect? No, of course things happen and our room was not ready for check-in at 3PM on day of arrival. Some "heated" discussion with manager on duty followed but they made it right (thanks for dinner!). But with one or 2 minor exceptions this hotel made the week fantastic. Many onsite restaurant choices and outstanding food. Beach is breathtaking. But now to the things that I feel have not been emphasized enough in the reviews and photos that I found here. The onsite reef is within the top 3 off-beach reefs I have ever snorkeled. You literally step a foot into the water and it begins right there. I mentioned a key worm eel. I saw this in 18 inches of water in broad daylight. The guys at the dive-shop had no idea what it was and admitted so although one felt it might have been an albino snake eel (see photo....too much pigment for that; and easily identified online as a key worm eel). But the reef offered much more (in total 6 species of eel, 5 of which I photographed and attach to this review, only not able to photograph a Goldentail Moray eel that I saw just one; but others are the worm eel, both snake eels (sharptail and goldspotted), chain moray and spotted moray). Must have seen 50-60 species of fish including 2 spotted drums (that remained in the same locations all 7 days), 2 species of triggerfish (ocean and blackdurgon), 3 species of filefish, 3 species of boxfish, 2 species of porcupine fish, creole wrasse in really shallow water and many others (I'll post photos of many but obviously not all for those interested). Out of the water the worms and caterpillars, the dragonflies and birds all are abundant too. A property we will definitely return to!

Excellent stay, beautiful but expensive resort
The beach at Sugar Beach is just amazing. Stunning scenery, excellent facilities, brilliant service. Gorgeous white sand and lovely sea to swim in. The loungers are great and there's lots of good big straw umbrellas. The beach service is a real plus with them bringing all your towels for you and serving lots of different meals and drinks straight to your lounger. You can completely relax and not worry about anything. We also loved the tennis court. It could not be more picturesque with stunning landscaping and clubhouse and right next to the Petit Piton. Excellent quality court and faultless surrounding. Lovely staff at the tennis club too and easy and free to book with your butler. Our luxury sugar mill room was in a great location because you're right next to where breakfast is served and can also walk easily to all the restaurants and reception without having to use the shuttle cars. The room was very large and had a massive terrace which we loved sitting out on. Lovely high ceilings. Air con was extremely effective but not always needed as it was a very airy and light room. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. They decorated the room for us for our honeymoon which was a really nice touch. We found the food at Sugar Beach much better than at Ladera. There's also a good amount of variety since there are four different restaurants. The Asian food at Cane Bar was delicious and we loved the vibes of being right by the beach at Bonte and the Grill. Breakfast has an incredible selection of different food it was always a shame when I wasn't able to eat more! It was a real plus having two egg chefs and a crepe/pancake/waffle chef. A lady egg chef in particular was an absolute delight, so friendly and would somehow always remember you and your order! She cooked me excellent fried eggs. We loved the live music that was regularly at the resort especially the instrumental steel drums band. The atmosphere was just great. The service was mostly very good but varied a lot from person to person. Some of the hosts at breakfast seemed not friendly and a bit stressed and a couple of the pancake chefs did not communicate well at all. Some of the waiters at the restaurants were delightfully friendly and charismatic whereas others were sleepwalking a bit. I think some staff just seemed much less motivated or less natural at service than others. I would exclude the butlers from this who without exception were excellent. We found the app for messaging your butler so helpful. They would always respond to everything very fast as well. Shout out to Beverley who did a brilliant and fast job packing my suitcase. We used the butlers lots for booking things for us and general help and advice and it was brilliant to have them. I couldn't fault the cleanliness of the room or the resort, the housekeepers did a great job and were also always kind. The gardeners also do an incredible job, the landscaping and gardens are just beautiful which is so impressive for such an enormous resort. The rainforest spa was stunning but the price of the treatments is absolutely eye watering, like more than 300 USD for a massage. The restaurants are also extremely expensive, even worse than some 5 star hotels in London which was a surprise. However we rated the food and service at all of our meals at the resort. Only main area of complaint would be the rum and chocolate tasting experience we did at the cocoa hut on site. The two staff members running it knew very little about rum or chocolates. I could have told you the facts that they said by just reading you the label on the side of the bottle. They also got some figures wrong and had to correct themselves. We were really expecting more expertise especially at such a high price point. We did several other activities and these were mostly very good although extremely expensive. We booked a boat tour directly on the beach with Ocean Angels Tours and the two guys were great and made us feel in no rush. They were very knowledgeable about the island and showed us loads of different places. It might be better to book excursions through a different provider because they charge you resort fees and taxes but it was also very easy and convenient just booking things directly through the concierge. Overall the resort is absolutely a 5 star resort. The views and location are just stunning and there are lots of different things available to do. Just the staff are a bit hit and miss and you need to have a lot of money to stay here, because the restaurants and excursions are extortionate.

Sugar Beach
Sugar Beach is in my top 5 beach destinations for sure. Great location and the views are magnificent. Great restaurants around the beach and it is very clean. A must see when in St Lucia. Overall great beach destination with amazing views all around.

Fantastic beach day and worth the money
Visited this beach on recommendation from cruise terminal. Cost $60 return per person by boat. Takes approx 45 minutes taking in great views of coastline and the Pitons. Beach has a hotel on it but public can use the beach free of charge. Excellent value day trip with some of the passengers doing a full tour including volcano, mud bath and waterfall at $90 per person. Drinks provided on return journey. Highly recommend over other beaches in st Lucia.
