    Quiet and peaceful

A clean and tidy hotel with pretentions to be an 'all inclusive '. A fair walk from the beach in nice grounds. Age group of guests 50+ with a leaning towards 70+ Good food and clean rooms. Bars slow in service, fitting in with clientele demands. Staff could be friendlier. Abigail was a notable exception. One of the most cheerful and efficient staff members I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Nice entertainment some nights. Many repeat clients, some we met on their twenty and thirtieth holidays at the hotel.

Perfect return trip to Barbados at the Sugar cane club.

This was our second trip to Barbados and this hotel. We returned to the sugar cane club because it is perfect for us. It is quiet , adults only with superb food and an excellent team who were very attentive and friendly. We were made very welcome as usual. We did have a hire car which was useful, however the hotel does lay on a free minibus on a regular basis . We can not recommend the Sugar cane club highly enough and would gladly return. As a bonus there are very friendly cats in the hotel!

    Peaceful break

This is a great hotel, from the moment we arrived and were presented with a rum punch whilst waiting to be taken to our room until the moment we left, we were treated really well by all the staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, food was tasty and fresh and we sampled some traditional Bajan dishes like brown down, plantain and flying fish cutters. Cocktails were brilliant particularly the corn and oil! It’s a quiet hotel most of the guests being in their 50s. The gully walk is well worth doing with an informative guide and fresh coconut straight from the tree at the end. There’s a free shuttle to Speightstown and back. Rooms are very comfortable. Gym was very good.

Our 5th visit and it won’t be our last

Our 5th visit to sugar cane where we come for the tranquility relaxation and winter sunshine. If you are looking for wild nights and top class food this is not the resort for you. There is no beach (although good shuttle bus) the pool and gardens are first class and never busy. Plenty of sun loungers too! The local town, Speightstown, has some good bars and a great vibe. Again you need the shuttle bus as it’s a good 30 minute walk (and uphill on the way back!) We hire a car for our holiday - expensive but it gives you so many options and you really should see as much of Barbados as you can - it’s a wonderful island full of history and colour. Food at the resort is in our opinion only average (although breakfast omelet is very good!) and service can be inconsistent particularly at the pool bar which was regularly unattended and had variable closing times! We choose to eat out quite often and recommend fish pot and local and co in Speighstown - there are many other great choices a little further away in Holetown. The resort staff are generally friendly and helpful. Housekeeping and gardeners do an excellent job. We do love coming here and would recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing holiday - but it just needs a little more attention to detail and consistency of standards to really justify a four star rating.

    What a Pity!

The negatives here are pretty much all about the staff issues. There is obviously something going on as some of them are difficult and as others have mentioned are on occassion rude. Getting a drink can be an ordeal as the bars are rarely manned so you have to wait until somebody else goes to the bar and then pounce when the staff member decides to arrive. Closing time at the bar is a tense affair with some staff packing bottles away long before the published time of closing creating an akward situation. Service in the restaurants is slow and it is clear that some of the staff dont want to be there. The food is generally OK. Stick to chicken and fish options and you should be fine. The lobster thermidor is very good if you want to treat yourself. The grounds of the hotel are really nice and the rooms spacious with housekeeping doing a good job. The reception staff were generally very good and helpful. I want to give this hotel a higher rating however the staff issues were enough to impact on the enjoyment of the holiday from start to finish of the 10 night stay. If the Sugar Cane Club owners/management can sort out the issues I am sure better reviews will follow.
