Feb 04, 2025Blissful stay at this tropical paradise. Will be back!
Just back from a week at The Fives with my husband. First time in the Riviera Maya and it didn’t disappoint. When we arrived we were upgraded free of charge to a suite with kitchen, lounge/diner and bedroom with toilet, shower, twin sinks and wardrobes. in Villa 20 right be the jungle path. I adored sitting on the balcony at 6am every morning with my coffee waiting for the jungle to wake up. So much wildlife. There’s even a beautiful Cenote in the hotel grounds with turtles. The huge bed was probably even more comfortable than my own back home which is unusual for hotel rooms but it was a timeshare apartment I guess so someone has bought it. It was thrilling to see the coatis everywhere, iguanas, agoutis, birds and especially the monkeys. My husband was mugged for a banana by one as we were leaving! We love to snorkel and the sea was a bit too rough some days but when it wasn’t we fed bread to the Sargent Majors that hang around the pier and out of nowhere a pelican twice smashed into the water beside us to grab a snack. Took a taxi (helpful bellhops will call you one) into Playa Del Carmen and walked 5th Avenue. Karen’s is a must for the salsa and cocktails. Met some nice Americans and Canadians at the hotel. Also took a taxi to Cenote Akul, 30 mins away to swim and snorkel. The driver waited to bring us back. Cozumel was ruined for us unfortunately by a car hire outfit who rented us a heap of scrap and our plans to drive around the island to different beaches were scuttled because we both suffered nausea and dizziness from carbon monoxide poisoning (there were holes in the floor, no doors, no roof and extremely loud exhaust) and drove it back after stopping for lunch at the rubbish beach club they sent us to (food was good but couldn’t snorkel outside their tiny roped off area). Got the ferry back and didn’t get to see the lovely beaches unfortunately. Favourite restaurant: the Mexican Tip: don’t hire a car before seeing it first. Tip: don’t brush your teeth in the tap water. Water bottles are by the sinks for good reason.

A proper 5 star hotel
A great hotel - really well run… charming staff and a good selection of places to eat…. Lots of pools and bars, branded drinks - really would recommend it..The only slight criticism would be the booking of restaurants in the evening - but we eventually worked this out! Would visit again…

Great to be back!
Fantastic from beginning to end! In addition to the perfectly manicured property and amazing views, the Fives again exceeded expectations. From food to the array of included wellness programming(yoga, breathwork and pilates by NRG2GO instructor, plus temazcal and cacao ceremonies) it was top notch!!

Wonderful getaway
Wonderful property. Food is excellent and service was wonderful. Loved all the activities. My favorites were the Temazcal ceremony, massages with Ingrid and yoga with with Melissa from NRG2GO. Special shout out to Esteban, Luis and Diego from Arezzo resturant. Absolutely top notch. Also, Jeff from the spa. Can't wait to go back

Never have we been so happy to come home at the end of our vacation. Villa 1 had horrible AC, run down and also hardly warm water to shower. Either froze or roasted (AC). Our Epic concierge was receptive to get it fixed but unfortunately it never stayed fixed. He tried his best we know. Oh btw we paid for Epic but at our arrival we’re told by Francesco ‘oh no we don’t have Epic any longer’. Well should have reimbursed us. It was a sickening feeling (potential rip off). Lots of ‘bait and switch’ stuff there too. One example: we ordered a bottle of nice wine (we knew it was additional charge, no problem). Wine arrives and it’s a cheaper bottle. Wine sommelier says ‘we don’t have the one you want’. OK, we’ll pay for the lesser bottle. Bill comes and hubby notices the extra $25 US on bill but the bottle we were served was $25 less than one we ordered. We said we weren’t going to pay for the bottle we didn’t get; charge us the cost of cheap wine. No senior, it doesn’t work that way he says. So we told waiter he lost the $25 tip he was going to get. The look on his face was SHOCK! Mexican restaurant there btw. Down right dishonest!! Don’t do that to your paying clientele. Time share push a lot too!! It’s not a vacation destination we’ll return too! Go elsewhere people; OR be very careful with your purchases that are extra there. Bad business!
