Paradise for the whole family
It was a lovely family trip! The beach had a nice barrier to let my little one play the ocean. The food was top notch, even the flavors buffet had a good rotation of international and local specialties. We were impressed with their careful attention to dietary restrictions. They had activities everyday for kids and adults. I enjoyed waking up in the morning to terrace yoga and i even tried pilates for the first time. The NRG2GO instructor helped guide me through my first class and made it very welcoming. We enjoyed the other activities as well on the resort like colouring and facepaiting for kids. Overall a memorable vacation and a Great family resort.

Couldn't Have Asked For Anything More...Perfect!
The Fives exceeded our expectations in every way! My wife and our 2 teenage kids had an amazing time at this beautiful resort. I read a ton of reviews and followed the suggestions of previous guests and our experience was perfect. We tried all of the restaurants and were able to get in right away (without owner reservations) as long as we checked in before 6pm. The staff was amazing and truly seemed to enjoy working there as well as interacting with the guests. All of the food was great especially the pop up street food stands near the beach. Room was cleaned every day with attention to detail given. Beach was beautiful and we swam in the ocean every day. As long as you get down to the beach before 9am, you will be able to get chairs. Breakfast in the French restaurant was delicious and served buffet style. Since we would eat dinner early, we were able to get to the plaza area and enjoy some drinks and the great nightly entertainment. One night they even had a demonstration of how they take an entire tuna and turn it into the amazing sushi served in the Japanese sushi restaurant. It does not get any fresher than that! This was a lot of money for our family to spend on a vacation but it was WELL WORTH IT! (and I am extremely cheap). Thank you to all of the staff for making our time there so special.

An Amazing Vactation
We LOVED this resort. The food was amazing (do yourself a favour and pay extra to make dinner with Rosa at Casa de Rosa!) and the service outstanding (but be prepared to understand a Mexican minute might mean more than the standard 60 seconds). The restaurants were noisy and you are not able to make reservations unless you are a member, but we didn't have a difficult time (go early). The beach is a little small, but the wide variety of pools available makes up for it. We loved the Breeze burger/ hotdog/ empanada booth on the beach as well as the pizza stand. The room was very clean and there were lots of friendly staff. Erik was our Ambassor had he took great care of us. Don't miss breakfast at the Mexican resto by villa 18 or dinner at the Italian one. The buffet was abundant with seafood and Mexican fare and everything was kept hot or cold as appropriate. The Plaza is really special and there are entertainment events there every night. The taco stand and the ice cream and smoothie bars are terrific. We had no problem booking an adventure in Cancun and we were able to go to Playa del Carmen for the day safely. There is a 7/11 within walking distance of the hotel and you are much better off walking there for snacks or needed items (I paid 26$ US for a ladies razor at the hotel "convenience store" and found out about the 7/11 the next day). Beautiful grounds, lots of events and wonderful people. We loved that it is situated in a mangrove jungle and we saw a ton of wildlife as we strolled along the boardwalk through the jungle (including a troop of monkeys in their natural habitat). Surprisingly, minimal insects. The hotel uses very little single use plastic, they reuse beach / pool cups after washing and they don't give out straws. LOTS of towels. They will try to rope you into a Membership, but once you say no they don't bother you. But you may get a free room upgrade or other perks if you agree to an hour long meeting :)

Very good, but could use some help
Wasn't sure what to expect because the reviews are up and down. I was pleasantly surprised at how well-kept the resort is. The landscaping is beautiful and everything is kept up very well. Nearly all of the staff is absolutely wonderful. So very kind and always smiling and welcoming. There were a couple negatives about my stay that I'd like to make everyone aware of: 1. The fixtures in my room were worn and had some rust on them. Not a show-stopper, but it gave me a very dated feel. 2. Bugs in the bed. I know it's impossible to stop insects from going where they're going to go. But when my wife and I woke up on our last morning there were SIX fly-like creatures crawling from under our pillows. And when we got to our room on the first day, there were a line of the same creatures, dead, laying along the bathroom wall. 3. The main buffet restaurant was pretty good most of the time. The sushi was awful and tasted not fresh/fishy and I refused to eat any more. There was some mold on some of the pastries, which have obviously been passed down from meal-to-meal throughout the week (maybe month). 4. The dinner we had at Sea Olive was absolutely horrible. Unseasoned meat, mystery ingredients in the veggies, undercooked pasta. If we weren't starving we would've thrown the whole meal away. Also, the other half of our family sat outside of Arezzo at 6:30 looking for a seat for dinner. They were finally sat at 9:30! And their meal was awful!! Go to the Thai restaurant for a respectable dinner. 5. This is optional, but they will try to talk you into free vouchers and excursion discounts if you meet with their sales team for a 1-hour presentation. No, it's not a timeshare, but it's investing in the actual property with a very large lump sum of cash ($40,000 for top tier), which gets you 1/2 off resort stays for 50 years, or something like that. 6. STAY AWAY FROM THE EXCURSION TO CHICHEN ITZA! It is 100% nothing more than a money grab the second you get on the bus. They hype the Mayan culture, which is cool to learn about, but they try to encourage you to buy souvenirs, your Mayan birth certificate, and every knick-knack you could imagine, saying it will help the Mayan people (while at the same time they're all on iPhones). You have to run the gauntlet of street vendors everywhere you go, constantly bombarded to buy something. Huge turnoff. And also, the souvenir shop in the Mayan village charged us double what we were supposed to pay, so be very careful. Our total should've been $156 dollars and our card was charged almost $400. Always, always, always look at your receipts and pay attention to what you're being charged. And to make matters worse, the silver/turquoise ring I bought was gone when I got back to the resort. They either didn't put it in the bag or it was stolen while our packages stayed on the tour bus while we visited the sites. That same ring was tagged as $20 and later on I found out they charged me $210. As much as you want to see and experience the culture, it's 99% a scam for your money. You are constantly bombarded all. day. long. Other than that, the Fives was great. Would I go back again? Yeah, probably. If you're thinking about going, there are two things you shouldn't miss: 1. The excursion to go diving in Cozumel. INCREDIBLE and worth every penny, despite the 6:30 am wake up time. 2. Walk wouth down the beach past all of The Fives beds and keep going until you reach the massage tables. Find Meggy and tell her you'd like a massage. She'll rock your world for $50 ($40 + $10 tip). Almost 80 minutes long! Best deal in town, especially compared to the spa in The Fives who wanted $295 for 60-minutes. Total rip-off. 3. For breakfast, stop at the taco lady at Humo Y Vino right in front of the buffet restaurant. Get the barbacoa tacos. Life changing.

Scary electrical problems-dishonest staff
WE traveled to the fives resort the last week of February with our Adult children and two grandchildren. We picked an all inclusive resort because we knew we would spend lots of time at the resort with the kids. We had five adults and two kids (ages 3 & 6). We had both good and bad experience. First the good. The resort was clean and everyone was so friendly. One of the children has very serious allergies and I must eat gluten free. We were very pleased with the food. Several of the chefs made special food for the child with allergies. Chef Loami in the French Restaurant made dairy free and egg free French toast that was a huge hit. I can't say enough about the kindness to accommodate her food allergies. We were right next to the kids pool which was great. It was next to the kids club and the kids enjoyed time there also. The beach area was very crowded but we always managed to get chairs. The food was very good. We went to the Thai restaurant, the French restaurant and the Italian restaurant was our favorite so we went there twice. Service at all the restaurants was really good. We usually ate early so we never waited too long for a table. We upgraded to a penthouse suite because we thought it would be nice to have the extra space. Rooms were nice. Our housekeeper was exceptional. Room service was slow but we only ordered ice and juice once. When we arrived the refrigerator in one of the rooms was warm. We reported it to our host. Several of the lights on the rooftop were not working and the jets in the hot tub did not work. Not a big deal. We reported it. No response the next day about either the fridge or the lights. The second evening we were sitting up on the rooftop and it started to rain. We all went downstairs to find that the power had gone out. But only in some areas in the suite. We called but no one came to help. It was late (10:30) So we opened the breaker panel and flipped breakers until the lights and air came on again. Next day we sent a message to the host letting them know. Electricians/ maintenance men came in and worked on ????? We were asked to leave the room while they worked. No problem. Happy to have it addressed. Refrigerator was not fixed. That evening the power went out again. We flipped breakers and got everything back on but we are very uncomfortable about the status of the electrical at this point. So the next day (day 3 of our 7 day vacation)my husband walked down the the front desk to talk to them about the situation. We really wanted to have a relaxing vacation not spend it trying to get the power working in our suite. That day there were several electricians in the suite replacing the lights on the rooftop deck, replacing the motor in the hot tub, replacing the refrigerator in the bedroom. We asked for compensation. They told us they would need to talk with the manager and they would get back to us. At first they offered us room credit of $200. At this point we had very few room charges and you could not use room credit at any of the stores so it was worthless to us. After a couple days of back and forth they offered us $500 refund to our credit card. They made a big deal of having us sign a document that said we would not do a bad review. This was promised by the Member Experience Manager Pedro Maldonado. The document was not available to sign until we checked out. He never signed it. But we were told a refund would arrive on our credit card in the next 10 to 15 business days. Emails to Pedro Maldonado have been unanswered. Phone calls never find him available. We paid a decent amount for this week at the resort. The $500 was a fraction of the cost to upgrade to the penthouse. It's unfortunate that this interaction left such a bad taste about the resort. Overall a nice resort but don't be surprised if you don't get what is promised. If you made it this far remember you have many choices for your vacation dollars. Our time just like yours is valuable.
