    Sucky hotel experience

I would put zero stars for this hotel it's in a very crappy location it's supper expensive and there is only one restaurant open at a time super stupid we had to wait 2 hrs with my family that was hungry and paid tons of money. Don't go here for the money you pay.

Fives Oceanfront is the place to stay in Puerto Morelos

This was our second visit to the Fives. It is a fine property although getting a bit tired. Thanks to Bernice for giving us a room on the quiet side of the hotel. Service was a bit slow on the beach. Rooftop pool is a real plus but could use more lounge chairs. Love the walk into town. Sargassum was a problem in mid March. Recent sargassum barriers should help. Probably the best place to stay in Puerto Morelos. Taxi to the airport was $40.00.

    Super relaxed and easy.

It was a friendly, easy experience. Luis at the restaurant and Nimsi were especially hospitable and lovely humans. Several other employees were especially lovely but I'm not good at remembering names. There was a loud wedding going on while we were there, which almost got annoying, but all the noise died down at a reasonable hour (maybe around 11). In the end, it was fun to have other things going on, but not obnoxious and very well managed. This resort is perfect if you're after a low-key vacation. I got a massage; was so-so and expensive (and I live in Park City).

Very Good and Very Not So Good

The Not Very Good: We arrived as two friends travelling together for our 50th Birthdays to find that the resort does not have rooms with two double beds. We sent two emails requesting this and neither reply informed us of this. There solution was that one of us sleep in the nice plushy bed and the other on the pullout couch, which was super uncomfortable. What hotel doesn’t have rooms with two double beds? Where do friends or co workers sleep for weddings or conferences. Really misleading. We requested that they move two single beds in to make another comfortable bed. Despite what reviews say, there is only RoMarley for breakfast and lunch and Al Mare for dinner. The rooftop has absolutely nothing. There is a bartender, but no service to your chair. There aren’t even chips or peanuts to snack on. So if you want food, you have to pack up and go downstairs for lunch. So weird because this space is gorgeous. There was a sunset Mayan show on Friday night, but otherwise this was a colossal failure on the part of the resort to offer service to guests. The lobby bar was only open 3 nights out of the whole week. Apparently, a large portion of the staff had been let go due to it being low season (in March?). The hotel was exploding at the seams on the weekend and at 70% during the week. Servers were overworked and tired. Lots of managers standing around with clipboards and fancy clothes on while the hardworking staff struggled to serve guests. The day pass guests in the cabanas added to the bulging capacity. I used to work in service and I see what’s happening. It’s really sad and I feel for the extremely hardworking staff who are being asked to carry the reputation of the resort on their backs like a burdensome load. People who can’t see this should know. Seaweed all week made the water un swimmable and time at the beach unpleasant. There were three people who worked like oxen to keep up but the net that catches the seaweed hadn’t been put in place and the east wind kept washing it ashore. Miraculously , when the hotel was at capacity, a tractor came along to help. The plastic drink glasses were not only cheap, but the reusable plastic glasses disappeared halfway through our stay and were replaced with flimsy disposable ones. The Very Good: the staff. Despite being run off their feet, many of them shone for us: Abraham at the Lobby Bar made excellent drinks, Elvis was great at bringing us breakfast each morning and Yoe was always smiling to greet us in the morning or for lunch. At the Beach, Ulysses and Adrian worked hard to provide drink service as well as food to the loungers. They worked so hard. Carlos at the Pool Bar was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. Advel at Al Mar was our server almost every night and he was always on the ball despite being very busy. He brought a touch of his personality to service by bringing us his favourite after dinner drink — which was delicious and a thoughtful way to shine as a server. We appreciated him sharing these personal touches. It’s important that servers are able to be humans and expected to be machines. I don’t think the hotel appreciates this concept. The chef, Christian made us an amazing meal in the rooftop consisting of Mayan Cuisine that was delicious and expertly presented. The server who helped him was wonderful, too. I thought I write his name down, but he was so professional and kind. A special thank you to both of them. Gustavo, the head of the Joy and Wellness program was a Superstar. This program is excellent and it would be great to see it expand more under his supervision. I never participate in activities at resorts, but there were lots of fun crafts like essential oil/perfume making, glass painting and pottery painting that I really enjoyed. All the professionals who helped him were also amazing. I highly recommend that you join in. Gustavo and his team were a shining example of joy for all guests. I already mentioned some of the food. The food was wonderful. The only things we didn’t love were the pastas and the pizzas, but some of the dishes here just blew me away. Favourites were the spicy Rock shrimp, The Ceviches, the Banana Cardamom Pancakes. The Osso Bucco, The Scallops and the delicious Chilean Sea Bass on Squid Ink Risotto. Lasagna here is legitimately the best we’ve had. Absolutely excellent. Thank you to the chefs, cooks, the servers, the dishwashers, and everyone who helped to make this gorgeous food out on to the plates. I booked a massage and 45 minute hydrotherapy session at the spa. The hydrotherapy was not 45 minutes and just ok, but the 80 minute massage I had with Mar was absolutely excellent. Maid service was great and the room was clean and fresh each day. Thank you to everyone cleaning this hotel and keeping things to look nice. Overall, we had a good vacation, but despite all the wonderful staff and the great food, the apparent lack of respect for the people on the ground level left a bad taste in my mouth. When will they realize that you can build a fancy looking building but if the people in it are not treated well, it shows—and in an ugly way that Instagram may miss but it’s there. I suppose it doesn’t matter as much to them since the rooms are condos that have already been purchased as time shares, but it matters to me, to my friend and to everyone we will tell about this resort. Times are tough for everyone. But respect costs nothing.

    Fantastic & Relaxing Vacation

The Fives Oceanfront was a fantastic vacation experience. The resort, the staff, the 1 bedroom suite with large balcony, the 3 restaurants, the 2 pools (one was a rooftop pool /Adults Only) and the beach were above & beyond our expectations. A short walk (14 minutes) to the centre of town (Puerto Morelos) either by the beach or the main street. THE RESORT: check-in and check-out went smoothly and the facilities were great. When checking-in ask about the restaurant schedules as they have special events throughout the week. THE STAFF: They were the most friendly & accommodating staff one could ask for @ a resort. A big shout to ADRIAN for his outstanding & professional poolside & beachfront service. VOY the hostess @ RoMarley restaurant with her big smile and greetings. KHADIJA with warm smile & greeting @ the cappuccino & coffee bar. ROSTIA with housekeeping friendly & a delightful person. The entire serving staff @ 3 restaurants & bars. THE ROOM: We had booked 1 bedroom suite. It was a very good size, limited kitchen (full size fridge), living room area (large screen TV), king size bed with 2 large double closets, double vanity with walk-in shower & a toilet closet. The large balcony with tub, 2 loungers & 3 piece outdoor furniture. THE RESTAURANTS: There are 3 restaurants which are all al-a-cartes for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The RoMarley, Al-Mare & K'iin (rooftop/Adults Only). The food was fantastic @ all 3 restaurants. The drinks were refreshing & the bartenders were friendly. THE BEACH & POOLS: The beach is just steps away from the resort. There number of loungers @ both the beach & the pools. The pools temperatures were on the cool side but very refreshing. It truly was a fantastic vacation @ The Fives Oceanfront in Puerto Morelos
