Ask him for his Italy and Sicily recommendations
Riccardo was the best arrival experience I have ever had! Ask him for his Sicily and Rome recommendations! He is the best. I highly suggest asking for Riccado my name when you check in. I am staying here for three more nights largely due to him and his guest service. Extraordinaire

Old world luxury in Rome
We booked with this hotel as part of a Viking cruise extension. The hotel is in an awesome location near the villa Borghese Gardens. It was very easy to taxi or Uber from our hotel. Our room was a very spacious grand luxe king room. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were crisp and generously sized for the bed. We had absolutely no complaints. The bathroom was huge and covered with marble. It had a tub, separate shower, bidet, and toilet. Our room was on the 5th floor facing the back, and it was incredibly quiet and peaceful. We had an enormous balcony facing a gorgeous courtyard with the city and hills in the extended view. For a bonus, we saw green parakeets flying and perching outside our balcony every day! Apparently - this is a thing in Rome near the garden areas. Super excited about that! We had breakfast every morning and it was plentiful, hot, and delicious. The staff seemed well trained, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Rome.

Disappointing Stay at the Westin Excelsior, Rome
I recently stayed at the Westin Excelsior in Rome, redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points for a deluxe room. Upon check-in, I was told I had been “upgraded,” but when I got to the room, it was far from an upgrade. The room seemed like a standard point-redemption offering—just a bed, a TV, and a small desk. This was a disappointing experience at a luxury hotel. Confused, I reviewed my original booking and confirmed that the room didn’t match the pictures or description of the deluxe room I had reserved. I went back to the front desk and spoke with Ricardo. After reviewing the details, he acknowledged the mistake and placed me in the correct room I had originally booked. While I appreciated the correction, the initial bait-and-switch left a sour taste. This issue wasn’t unique to this hotel. Throughout my trip in Italy, every Marriott Bonvoy property I stayed at seemed to put me in the least desirable room available, even though it was the low travel season. For a property of this caliber, I expected far better service and transparency. If you’re redeeming points, beware—this property (and potentially others) seems to treat loyal members using rewards as second-class guests. This experience has made me question my loyalty to the Marriott brand.
