Our room was very outdated and felt dirty

If you want a good location, this hotel has it. The bed was comfortable. The room was very large. Beyond that, our room was in serious need of an update. The decor is very dated, and I get that they are going for an "old world" elegance feel. But because everything looks so run down, it felt dirty. Our bathroom had a blood-red marble which probably looked good many years ago. Now it is covered with limescale. The faucets had so much limescale that they could no longer qualify as a chrome finish. The bathroom countertop was so worn and pitted that the marble no longer shined, so I wondered what was lingering in a surface that could not be easily cleaned. I had to put a towel on the counter to before taking any toiletry out of my bag and setting it down. The shower was a series of two different faucets and heads that had to be used separately--they worked okay but also looked old and filthy and were complicated if you were trying to keep warm in the shower. I could see there were nice amenities like fluffy robes, decent towels and bath products, but I couldn't enjoy the space because it felt so dirty and old. Also, at 2am I was awakened by a truck on the street picking up garbage and breaking glass for a very long time. I know it's an old building in a large city, but the windows were not well-insulated for sound. Overall, not a great stay.

A major disappointment! Never again. m

I rarely write a non-complimentary review when I experience a disappointing venue. Simply, I do not want to write a negative one, lest this was a one time off thing and be unfair to the establishment. But the systematic and numerous negative encounters during my stay at the Excelsior Rome ( Oct 24-26, 2024) clearly showed the underperformance at this hotel is deeply rooted and ingrained. Numerous examples to give. The room furniture is old; I mean OLD and room felt one was in a 3 star hotel from the eighties . Had to go down and reactivate my room key 4 times during a 2.5 day stay. The staff are unpleasant and make yo feel you are burdening them when you ask them a question ( let alone ask for something). It takes several minutes for "express service" to pick up the phone when calling from room ( the 1985 model phone in the room was greasy and dirty). Sauna was not on ( attendant said it will heat it in a couple of minutes as it is set to pause at 60 deg when not in use ... while in fact temp was 25). Male locker room in SPA: Utter mess. Going to breakfast, I asked the concierge to research for me a place in Rome and tipped him 10 Euro. He was gone when I returned and I had to repeat same with his replacement. The lobby bar feels is lifeless . Many other negative things but I will stop here. Location is perfect. Room service was prompt ( although when I asked for coffee at 6 am, the person who answered the phone made me feel like I was bothering him). And really many other unpleasantries.

    Wonderful experience!

The hotel is perfectly located on the Via Veneto in Rome walking distance to Spanish Steps and the Borghese Gardens and Gallery. The staff is very attentive and courteous. The breakfast buffet is excellent. The “heavenly bed” is comfortable as always. I will definitely stay here again in the future!

    A wonderful hotel

We had an amazing experience, as always, at this beautiful hotel. The dining, bar and Guest Hostess experience was excellent and the customer service from all areas was wonderful. Thank you to everyone at the hotel and we hope to return again very soon.
