Good vacation, but service can improve.
We were so impressed with our 2024 vacation at Grand Ventana that we returned in Feb. 2025. This year was not as good. The buffet food had less variety and quality. However, the service was excellent, and the staff was very welcoming. The Octopus a la carte was a disaster. I ordered a well done steak, but it came very burnt. So I ordered another, and it came rare. We waited an hour for our dinner there, and were advised to go to the buffet if we want faster service. The maid service and service at reception was inferior to our 2024 vacation. We often didn't have enough towels in our room. Sometimes we didn't have any. After several requests, I still waited an entire day for a suitcase stand so that I could unpack. Beach towels are often are not available. We may return to the resort and hope for better service. The beaches are public, therefore there are a lot of friendly vendors.

Wonderful
This trip was nothing short of spectacular! The grounds are stunning, everything is lush and the views breathtaking. The amenities are top notch, the room are spacious. Every meal was a delight with fresh and flavorful options to fit my vegetarian/plant forward diet. One of the highlights of my stay included the yoga classes. The NRG2GO instructor Jennifer C was super knowledgeable and passionate about the practice. I thought the classes catered to all levels. Doing yoga while surrounded by such natural beauty was a wonderful experience! If you are looking for a place to relax and rejuvenate- this resort is the perfect destination. Highly recommend!

Just disappointed
This was our 14th trip to the DR and our 3rd trip to Puerto Plata. We travel with three other couples and all of us had varying degrees of difficulties. We purchased the royal package as well. We have been to many resorts and experienced all-inclusive travelers. This is the first resort we did not enjoy and will not be on list of return trips. Pros: staff fore the most part are fantastic, grounds and layout are great. Area is well maintained and gorgeous. Food is not anything to write home about but it was OK. Ala-carte places are ok as well for the price point of this resort. The beach is fantastic and one of my favorite beaches ( and I have been to many) Drinks in the regular bars are just OK. CONS, and this is where the resort really could be a fantastic place if they would make some adjustments. If you don't get up at 530 and save a chair by the pool, you will not get one. Especially if you are in a larger group. Not enough chairs and umbrellas at the pool. The fridge in my room did not work for days, they replaced it two days before we left. We requested a couple extra bath towels for our room. I shower at night and in the AM and ONE small towel is just not enough, so room service delivered a couple extra towels and hours later someone else came in and took them away. THIS IS NOT ROYAL SERVICE. we had to request a coffee maker and supplies for our room unless we wanted to walk down to the buffet and wait for them to put out the coffee containers ( Which vary from day to day) One day I waited out there for minutes. THIS IS NOT ROYAL PACKAGE SERVICE. The coffee maker was great but without a fridge we had no place to store our milk for our coffee and had to stick with the disgusting coffee mate powder. The Vintage bar was nice but they offered the same stale snacks each day. SAME THING EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS.. Our friends had to change rooms, they had NO TV, NO INTERNET, Shower leaked and they door keys would not work. So after 5 days of complaining, they moved them to a room with two beds and right near the entertainment area.... they didn't get much sleep. Resort is loud, with music every night until late. If you have a room on the inside area it will be very loud. Starts at about 11AM and goes all into the evening. They bring in cruise ships and lookout... it gets hard to get anything around there while they are there on their day trip. We got kicked out of some chairs on the beach as apparently these are special chairs for the cruise lines. SO, manage your expectations and set the bar low if you go here. My entire group will not return to this resort.

Excellent
We just got home from a family vacation at VH Gran Ventana. While not the best all-inclusive resort, it did not disappoint. The beach is wonderful, but be prepared for a lot of sales people. The pool is fantastic and there is a bonus "quiet pool" area but we didn't use it because we travelled with young children. The kids place is conveniently located by the pool so your children are always a safe distance, and the ladies who run the kids place were fantastic. Lots of fun activities for kids off all ages. The food was decent with a good variety. The bars were clean and fast. The resort was exceptionally clean and the public washroom areas always had a cleaning person in there making sure it was top notch. The rooms were nothing special but honestly just a place to sleep and shower, and they were clean. But the gem of VH Gran Ventana is the entertainment staff. We fell in love with Henri and Carlos. My 9 year old daughter Aurora became their little assistant for the week-dancing, singing, doing aqua fit and they really just made our week the absolute best! We felt like family by the end of the week and we already miss them so much. I will go back just to see Henri and Carlos again!!!
