    Relaxing vacation

Visited with family and kids. Kids enjoyed playing the volleyball every day, thanks a lot Edgar for making it a great activity experience. A lot of swimming pools all around, many restaurants to eat from. On the first day we ate Caramelized Pizza with Pear at Davino, it was yummy. Thanks a lot to Fernando and everyone at the resort for nice welcoming and making it a great stay, it was awesome.

Very nice resort, clean and above average food for AI. Some intricacies to consider...

First of all, the really positive aspects of this resort.... CLEAN ALL AROUND, POOLS AND ROOMS! Attentive and friendly bar staff, especially pool swing bar, Yair and Miguel and Legends bartender Miguel. Cleaning staff was outstanding, turndown service was legit... overall that aspect of this resort is very solid. Views were really nice throughout the hotel and the proximity of restaurants was really solid. Not too much walking, but just enough of a spread. For an AI, the food was actually very solid. This seems to be true of the region in general, when compared to other locations like The Dominican Republic, but this resort had solid options and pretty above average tastes to try. Any reviewer can spend their time picking apart a resort or a vacation destination, but that is not really warranted here, because we had a really good time. However, there are some oddities to this resort that you should be aware of... First, this is a hybrid environment, where some people are AI and some people are paying as they go. This unique scenario means that even AI guests have to paper sign for every single thing they consume, from drinks to meals. Even at the buffet... This is cumbersome and clumsy and when asked why an AI guest has to sign for everything, we were told it was a quality control measure, to see what was being consumed? That seems really cumbersome and clunky and part of the AI experience is to not have to see bills over and over again. Like a lot of resorts, there was no place, absolutely ZERO, to change our larger USD bills for smaller ones to allow for tipping for the staff. We spent some days running around from the front desk, to the stores, to the bar staff, trying to change out larger USD bills to make sure we had cash to tip the friendly staff. The above were minor irritations that did not really damage the experience. Another scenario we repeatedly experienced was at the meals... the order of the food coming out was really odd? We had multiple dinners where certain people were being shown the dessert menus before others had even gotten an entree plated? This created all kinds of awkward timing issues and again because of this never ending "signing" of the paperwork, post meal, created a feeling of being trapped at the tables at times.... The check in and check out process was handled by friendly staff, but staff who seemed to not really be able to communicate effectively in English as to what was happening or why? Our room was a bit wrong, versus what we booked and it was never really explained to us? It worked out and we had fun, but it was clunky. Same deal on the way out, the credit card close out process seemed archaic and I ended up receiving calls at the airport wanting authorization for more stuff that they had not been able to process? In 30 years of travel... never had that happen before? Final deal that rubbed me the bit the wrong way... they kind of implore you to sit with their concierge staff for what appears at the onset to be a friendly chat about the amenities and layout of the resort. Cool... all good. But what it really turns out to be is a time share pitch to get you to a breakfast at the sister resort to hear about "semi permanent residences." Now these folks were slick, well spoken and really could have been better used at the front desk to help people get in and get settled, but I get it... there is a sale to be attempted. Just felt kind of gross after all the money one had already committed to? Overall, this place is fun. The beaches are really nice and sandy and not overly rocky. You can actually use them. Bar staff is great, kids had fun in the really uniquely organized pool setups. Food was definitely above average and we had a nice experience overall. I would say it is worth a stay, but there are just some oddities that I would have preferred to have been made aware of? The 2 bedroom suites have washers and dryers... NOWHWERE did it say this on our reservations or bookings... a welcome surprise, but it would have been nice to know, as we could have cut down packing by 2/3 of our clothes. :)

    Excellent service

We always have a great time at this resort, this is our fourth time here! We love the amenities, the food is always delicious and the service is great! All the staff is friendly, and the rooms are clean and comfortable! We love that there is a kitchenette and laundry in our room! We also love the proximity to the ferry to go to Isle Mujeres! Eric was our server by the pool all week and he was excellent! He had great recommendations when we weren't sure what we wanted and always brought everything quickly and with a smile! We hope to see him again on our next trip!

    Christmas Vacation

This is our 4th visit here. We arrived to the resort before scheduled check in, they let us use the hospitality room while we waited for our rooms to be ready. The food here is amazing, Zama and Hiroshi are our favorites. Our server by the pool was Eric, he did an amazing job! We made sure we got chairs in his section each day. Even though the hotel was full, it never seems too busy here.

Villa Palmar treat a member horribly

We were into our second full day and ordered room service and was told our o credit was closed and couldn't order anything. No explanation, no direction. So we called the front desk and we're told they tried to expand my credit card deposit but it was declined? I then contacted Capital One and they said they had blocked the Villa Palmar charge as possible fraud and I needed to verify the charge. I verified it and Capial One said the card was good to go. I then called the Front Desk and ask if everything was OK. I was told to come to the front desk to verify that the card was ok. So I went to the Front Desh and the Supervising Manager denied they ever asked me to come down to verify everything. He said everything was ok and they were able to increase my deposit accordingly. During this time no one called me about the declined credit or that the new charge had gone through and everything was ok. Horrible service. So instead I had to come out of my room to straighten everything out when a simple phone call could of resolved everything. Instead, they just cut off your credit with no explanation and cause alot of panic for nothing. When I finally called back room service, they said they were out of all their entries beside Fajitas???? They always treat you great when booking your room but once your here, they treat their guests like nobody's. .
