- PrincevilleFirst developed in 1853 as a large coffee plantation, this 11,000 acre development is now home to many residents as well as a vacation spot for those that come to Hawaii to enjoy themselves. The development is no longer a coffee plantation; instead it offers resorts, golfing, beaches, and waters that are great for surfing as well as snorkeling
- Waimea CanyonThis is a beautiful place for visitors to see when they are in Koke’e and it is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. The Waimea is a massive 3,600 feet deep, two miles wide, and an extraordinary ten miles long. This is definitely a camera worthy adventure that the old and young alike will find very exciting.

Perfect vacay spot for us
Condo 202 was great. Well appointed, comfortable bed and a kitchen with all the necessities. Wailua Bay centrally located to visit Poipu and Princeville. Hearing waves 24/7 was heavenly. This is a quiet, smaller complex that is maintained constantly by staff. On-site staff was friendly and helpful. Our host Jeff was easily reached via email…. Will go back in a heartbeat…in fact we have already booked for 2025…

Wailua Bay View 205 vs Kapa'a Sands 18
We stayed at both Wailua Bay 205 (WB205) and Kapa'a Sands 18 (KS18) within the same week as we were relocated due to issues at Kapa'a Sands which were beyond anyone's control and not immediately solvable. Vacasa looked after us as well as they good in the circumstances. WB205 is about 2.5x larger than KS18, having a separate bedroom and a large living area with a sofa bed. The lanai at WB205 is a good size and has 2 loungers plus a table and chairs to enjoy the view fom 2 floors up. Unfortunately the view from the loungers is somewhat interrupted by the wooden bars of the lanai barrier. What is also not very clear from the condo website photos is the highway that runs parallel to the beach and has constant traffic running along it with the accompanying constant rumble of trucks and cars which cannot be escaped. The lanai at KS18 opens directly onto the grass with a smaller ocean view and no loungers. The Kauai roosters can be very loud when crowing at the edge of the lanai, approximately 10-12ft (3-4m) from your bed, and they start early!! I would take this over the constant traffic though. From KS18 you are a very short walk across the grass and down a a step pathway onto an amazing beach. We were not able to get into the ocean much as the waves and currents were too strong to be safe (Jan 2024) but there is an area that is protected by a long rock formation (this seems to be quite common on the Kauai beaches) where the water stays up to about 2ft deep (or more) and many reef fish can be seen along with other sea creatures. Access to the beach from WB205 involves going the 2 flights of stairs (no elevator) to the buildings ground level, then an additional 39 stairs to the street, a short walk along the road and then on to the beach. Having limited energy this was not an ideal scenario for me. The interior of KS18 is very tired (I have described it as shabby) however it was very clean. Unfortunately, the worn out interior does not give this impression of first entry. WB205 is more updated. Both condos had great kingsize beds and pillows, I had my best sleeps for a long time at KS18 (despite the roosters and other temporary noises, the units were all being pressure washed during our stay). Sleeping at WB205 was marred by the thrumming of the ceiling fan coming from the unit below. I found this disturbing enough to try sleeping on the sofa bed. However the mattress is very this on this and the bed frame can easily be felt through it making the irritating fan noise the better option (with ear plugs) Despite is smaller size and tired interior, we enjoyed our stay at KS18 more than WB205. We preferred to access to the beach and the lack of traffic noise. I should clarify that KS18 was not devoid of road noise but at a far more acceptable level than WB205. If those things are not of concern for you then WB205 offers a somewhat more comfortable living accommodation. I did enjoy listening to the ocean at night from KS18 which was not the case with WB205 as that condo bedroom faces away from the ocean and more towards the street.

Beautiful ocean view on Kauai
We stayed in unit 312. The unit was very comfortable and well appointed with new furniture, appliances, and all the kitchen geer you would need. Balcony overlooks the bay. Wailua Bay View has a great location on the east side. Plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. A Great central location to go north or south to other parts of the island. This is a great way for a couple to enjoy the island. The visitors guide put together by the owners was very helpful in finding the right restaurant as well as navigating what at times could be dificult traffic.

Loved our stay, Unit 214 was great!
The condo had everything we needed and we enjoyed our stay so much, exploring all of Kauai with our home base in Wailua. The lanai is very private due to the position of the building on the coastline, and you get a great view of parasailing athletes going hard in the afternoon/evening, so that was pretty entertaining. The ocean was very active and therefore quite loud during our entire stay, but it was actually still very peaceful despite the volume, and if we closed the window and lanai doors at night, it was muted to no longer be significantly audible if the noise were to bother someone. Otherwise, it had everything we needed: ocean view, comfortable bed, washing machine, tea kettle. Also a great location on the island to make trips to the north or to the south and west. Across the street from one of the better bakery/lunch options that we found some really great malasadas and a decent loco moco plate. Also very close to the bus stop if you find yourself wanting to explore without a car, although the rest of sightseeing on the island and getting around does require a vehicle (ie. after returning our car the night before, we could not get a taxi to pick us up to get to the airport at 6:30am so we just took the bus which was easy enough).

Nice condo with great ocean views - unit 214
Wailua Bay View unit 214 is on the second floor with a spacious lanai right by the ocean, where the surf breaks onto the rocks. It's clear that the owners have spent time here as it feels homey and has many personal touches. The place is well-stocked with everything from kitchen items to beach gear. It's close to the main road, so some traffic noise is to be expected, but the sounds of the ocean drown it out. Several restaurants and beaches are within walking distance. The bed was comfortable, bathroom had been recently renovated, and the ocean views were stunning. Great place to stay for a shorter or longer trip on beautiful Kauai.
