    First time travelers beware!

Beware of the pictures on the website and confirm the room you’re getting before you get there. We booked a 2 BR villa and got a 2BR unrenovated place and they refused to move us. The common areas did not have a/c and were too hot to be in and we didn’t have the all inclusive plan. The bathrooms were fine but outdated. Just know what you’re getting—not all rooms are created equal. The staff at the hotel were lovely but the management were pretty incompetent and didn’t know how to deal with the situation. They offered us next to nothing. From what I could gather the hotel caters to a returning crowd and knows the rest of the travelers are one time only customers (unless they’re friends of a villa owner and then they’re treated differently)! Not surprisingly they have vip codes on their lists of guests with at least 3 levels of vips; villa owners, friends of, and returning guests. (That was from a sneak peek at the hostess’ list). The common areas are beautiful; adequate number of beach chairs. On pro side, this was not a snobby clientele and everyone was super friendly. As were many of the staff, Travis, Gemma, and several others. It is too bad the management didn’t treat all of their guests with respect.

Beautiful location, very poor & frequent lack of attention to detail

Firstly, the location is EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful, the beach & pool are very pleasant, the choice of restaurants on property are good to quite good - and the staff members overall try very hard and have a nice attitude to guests. Rena on the beach, Yannick at breakfast, Lawrence on omelette station, Valencia in the bar - all were excellent. What was consistently and alarmingly disappointing given the high price was the LARGE STRUCTURAL LACK OF ATTENTION TO SMALL DETAILS. This, in the end, became a repeating refrain of frustration, given the cost of the stay. Almost every guest we spoke to felt the same way. None of these details matter hugely on their own but when all together, it was not good. Check was 3pm. At 3.20pm our room was not ready; to me this is akin to a guest turning up and only saying they will pay 96% of the room rate! We had emailed in advance asking that the sofa bed was to be made up and were assured, ah yes, when we have 3 adults in the 1 bedroom villa, we always make sure it is made up. It was not. Housekeeping, when they did come to make it up, said "sorry, nobody told us that there were 3 adults here." No limes available for a sundowner gin & tonic. Pool towels are the upper pool not available - one had to go to the lower pool to grab pool towels. Gym requipment was broken (bike seat height could not be adjusted, pedals on both bikes were broken) - and other guests told us this had been the case for ten days. We booked a tennis lesson by email with the hotel, were quoted a price, then at the time of the lesson we were told it was a higher price. One employee asked a friend of ours if they would get him lunch as he was hungry - which she did, kind lady, but it raises several questions. Having had to call for new towels, we had to call back after 2 hours because Housekeeping had not managed to bring any. Once more - very small details in isolation, but given the very large price, so many of them grated by the end of our stay and were an annoyance. A less pricey hotel and we would not have felt that way but if Windjammer is trying to be this high end, it should sort this out for guests. Again, a very beautiful location on a gorgeous Island, with extremely friendly people - and a resort that was safe and clean...but which seriously needs management to refocus, be less complacent and get a firm grip with the small details.

Decent stay, drastically outweighed by incompetent management and customer service

There are reasons that I wanted to rate this experience higher, but the negatives are so drastic, that I just can't bring myself to do it. I am amazed that this place has so many perfect reviews, and I imagine my complaints will be drowned out by all of that positivity. However, I am normally a very easy going traveler, and I assumed that the few bad reviews I saw must have been difficult people, and I brushed them off as such. If you are reading my review and thinking the same, be warned. This place - while having great potential - is not what you would expect from the reviews here. At the risk of losing the reader with my long story, I'll try to summarize the pros and cons and work in some of my narrative: Pros: - Good amenities for families: multiple pools; a pretty nice beach; a floating trampoline and water slide off the beach; sailing and some other watersports are complimentary - Nice (though far from deluxe) property - Many excursions available if you want to get out and do something without venturing outside of the resort - Entertainment on-site seemingly every night, in at least one location. - In-room amenities: our room had a hot-tub and an in-unit washer/dryer. It also had a working nespresso machine, for which we were provided a generous supply of pods daily Cons: - Terrible customer communication and management, and I mean TERRIBLE. I've stayed at lodgings in some extremely poor parts of the world that don't have much tourism, and they knew how to treat customers better than the Windjammer's management does. I have been trying to get an itemized receipt of my reservation for almost 3 weeks. I was double charged for some things and have been trying to get it resolved, and have been unable to get a response for over a week. Finally I had to submit a dispute to Amex and spend my morning writing that up. - Poor attention to details. For example, during our first dinner, we had to ask to be reseated because about 3 feet away from us, an employee was doing landscaping work (after sunset), and all we could smell was mulch. He was also playing really loud and vulgar music on his phone. I generally don't mind music that some people might find offensive, but when I am trying to have a relaxing dinner with my family, it detracts from the experience (not to mention if you have children who are old enough to understand words and don't want them listening to music about shooting people while you have dinner). - Noise: As others have mentioned, during my stay, the Windjammer was undergoing a relatively major construction project. This caused tremendous amounts of noise in my room, but more annoyingly (because we have a white noise machine for our infant which was able to drown out a good deal of noise), it made it impossible to have a peaceful meal at most of the restaurants on-site. Every day, the construction workers would be making noise with hammers and drills during the daylight, which was not unbearable. Then, as soon as the sun set, they would turn on the concrete mixer and stone saws and turn up the volume to 11. This would persist until between 11 PM and 2 AM. We complained about this multiple times, and were basically shrugged off. I was told after finally talking to the manager that he would escalate our concerns, and I didn't hear about it again. After that, we ate dinner away from the main area of the resort for the last 3 nights to avoid the noise. Management treated us like we were a bit unreasonable for our complaints here, and gave us the impression that nobody else had raised similar concerns. After seeing some other reviews here, I can see that this is false. - Towels: Again as others have mentioned, it was about a 50% chance whether we would have towels in the evening (not just fresh towels - towels at all). One night we had 0 towels and requested some be brought so we could shower. We were provided with about 10. We only needed 3, and left the remaining 7 folded up for use the next day. The next day, after housekeeping came, we were left with 1 towel, and decided to just share it between 3 people (!!!!!!) because we were in a hurry. - Food Prices: Traveling comes with premiums on everything; i know this. But this place charges exorbitant prices for food and goods in the marketplace. If you have a big appetite for both food and alcohol, and you go with the all-inclusive, you may get a bit of a better value. So, your milage may vary to some extent. After the noise and generally poor environment of the first 2 days, I was ready to rate this place 1 star. Then, after finding ways to avoid the bad and focus on the good, I was ready to rate it around 3 when we were leaving. After 3 weeks of trying to simply get an itemized bill for our stay and fight being overcharged almost $700, I'm back to 1 star. I would give negative or 0 if I could. This was meant to be a relaxing week after a stressful year, and it has turned into multiple weeks of stress and annoyance. To anyone who ever asks me, I will tell them to avoid this place at all costs.

    Very nice family oriented resort

Recently spent Christmas week at Windjammer with my 34 year old son and his wife. We had a 2 bedroom hillside villa with pool and were on the all inclusive plan. It was our first visit. First the negatives. As many others have stated it is about a 90 minute $100 taxi ride from the international airport. Traffic in Castries is the biggest wildcard on how long the journey actually takes. We had no car sickness problems with the hilly roads. Our villa was dated, but very clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned. Views of the water are great and the outdoor terraces are large. Daily maid service is very good. New furniture and updated kitchens and baths would make these villas truly 5 star quality ,, as is they are still pretty good, I would say 4 star. I found the ambassador program to be useless. I tried to make some pre arrival arrangements but could not get any response. Once onsite an ambassador greeted me upon arrival but that was about it. Never saw him again. The good news is that once you are onsite you don’t need an ambassador and you can find help if you need it. The last negative is that a large part of the Caribbean ocean floor at Windjammers beach is either rocky, muddy, or covered with seagrass. This crowds guests into the areas near the floating sunbeds and slides which have more sandy bottoms. This is manageable, but you may have to pick times to get in the ocean when the good areas are less congested. Definitely bring water shoes in order to better enjoy the sea. The food and drink variety, quality, and service is very good at all venues. Do get the all inclusive plan as a la carte prices are ridiculously high. And do make dinner reservations using open table 30 days or more in advance of your arrival to ensure preferred times. The beach chair reservation system works well and if you follow the rules you will not have to get up at dawn in order to find chairs and umbrellas. Daily activities, the gym, spa, pools , kid programs , tennis courts, and included water sports are way above average and create a lot of options for those who want to be active. The excursion desk is friendly and helpful with many choices. Employees are nice and helpful. The overall resort looks nice and is well kept. Mostly a British or American crowd, often multi- generational. Not celebrities or billionaires, but people with money who have traveled. Not a party atmosphere, but low key music most nights, and you can make new friends at a couple of the bars until 11 or 12. A really good family oriented resort overall. I think 4.5 stars is about right. I would not hesitate to return.

    Windjammer never disappoints

We stayed for 14 nights in a 2 bedroom villa with a pool Villa 55. This is our 3rd time to the Windjammer and we had the most amazing 2 weeks. There have been many changes since we last visited 2 years ago and I feel these changes were all for the better even if a few teething challenges! This was the first time we really used the water sports and what an amazing team they have there supporting you, helping and nothing was ever too much. Our wee boy mastered knee boarding through the help and guidance from Denver and Mario. Denver went out of his way to take us on the Hobie Craft and encouraging our wee boy to try sailing. What a truly amazing experience and opportunity, huge thank you to Denver. Helen Richard’s Duty Manager was beyond amazing, she was there wanting our feedback and went out of her way to ensure we had the best stay we could ask for. Nothing was too much for Helen to arrange, sort out and help with, thank you to Helen for being so helpful, supportive and sorting all that she did for us. Kevin Food and Beverages Manager again has eyes in the back of his head, amazing! He sees what needs to be changed, altered, he is always smiling and acknowledges you ever time he saw you and never forgot your name, little touches from him made all the difference to our experience and have left us feeling special. Really like the booking of sun loungers on the beach - top tip go and arrange on your first day then no stress for the rest of your holiday. Best restaurant Masala - Indian, food was authentic, fresh and full of flavour. Service from Margot was outstanding the best server ever, nothing was too much trouble, so welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu, simply fantastic. Dragonfly sushi was incredible. Swimming pool is super fantastic since it’s been redone along with the new kids pool too, such a fantastic improvement along with the welcome addition to the new sun loungers and umbrellas which there are lots. We will definitely be returning next year, thank you team Windjammer.
