A quiet retreat on Grand Cayman

Located in the quiet but picturesque East End of Grand Cayman on its own beautiful white sand beach, Wyndham Reef Resort is a great place to kick back. Yes, it has events if you like that kind of thing (from fish-feeding to beach volleyball to bingo to aquarobics), but you can easily avoid all that stuff too. We stayed at the quieter (north) end of the resort, away from the pools and the Beach Bar (which can get noisy, especially when there is live music), and it was really quiet and peaceful. We chose the third floor (there is an elevator) to avoid scraping chairs and midnight stomping, but I think we needn't have worried (the rooms seem pretty well sound-proofed). Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with a full kitchen and a balcony overlooking the beach. I appreciated that the toilet flushed quietly and the doors don't creak, and that the lighting was good and bright. Air-conditioning worked fine, although we hardly needed it in January: it was a comfortable pleasant temperature. Room cleaning was every 3 days (unless you ask for more), so unnecessary washing is avoided, and you book a beach towel out at the start of your stay, so no unnecessary washing of clean towels either. Shampoo and shower gel was in refillable containers. Little things. There is recycling, although it's hidden away behind the tennis courts and not otherwise mentioned. Tides Restaurant, Beach Bar and Coffee Shop are all fine, if a bit pricey (it IS still Cayman, after all!) with a surprising number of vegetarian and vegan dishes on offer too. But there is also Fosters supermarket just across the road, so you can cook in if you want a change and some cheaper prices. The beach is lovely, although the ocean can be a bit rough when it is windy (which seems to be often), and there is a reef and seaweed to negotiate. You can walk a long way on the beach in both directions. Staff were pleasant and helpful in the main. Check in and check out was painless. Wifi was fine (in the room, in the common areas, even on the beach). There's a small gym, a spa, basketball and tennis courts, laundry facilities, ample parking. everything you might need, really. No complaints.

    Needs a lot of work

For starters: Don't stay on the East Side. The Seven Mile Beach area is so much nicer, better weather, nicer beaches, and much calmer waters. But if you ignore that advice, there are better options nearby The Wyndham staff is pretty inattentive. Promised phone calls with information never happened, no towels at 9am (and staff that seemingly couldn't care less), not accommodating to other requests. Major rooster issue. Woke us up at the crack of dawn every day. Pooped all over our patio and had to ask multiple times for it to be cleaned. Harder to quantify ... the facility needs an upgrade. It's just sort of dumpy, room felt dirty. The nearby locations like Morritt's are much better.

    Cayman getaway

Great place to stay dor a quiet getaway. Food was great, fairly priced. The seafood buffet is a MUST and the fresh baked croissant is to die for not to mention the eggs benedict. Happy drinks not bad for $5 as well. This is a nice location should you want a quiet getaway away from the crowds.

Great service and on the beach but remote and windy in January

Wyndham is a nice, quiet property with one and two bedrooms right on the beach. In fact I’ve never stayed this close to the beach in my lifetime. Do great to walk out in the am to see the sun rise. Beautiful beach especially for snorkeling but quite rocky for swimming. The bar is cute with events like bingo and sometimes live music, Tides restaurant is good, and workout room is fine. That said the East End of the island is very windy in January, and a bit remote from anything else on the island ( 45 minutes to 7 mile beach) and while the customer service is fantastic ( Arturo especially at the concierge desk) they offer no flexibility if you are leaving on an evening flight for a late checkout past 10 am, and the workers are blowing leaves and making lots of noise from about 9 am through noon if you are a late sleeper.

    Love this place!

Awesome hotel on a quiet area of the islands. Still with great local restaurants like La Casita. Food at hotel is incredible..some of the best I’ve ever had…and the outdoor beach bar is paradise. The staff is super nice- especially David at the beach bar, and Gabriela at Tides.
